Hi

I think I posted this message in the wrong bit first time!!!

Anyway. I am new to all this and probably only want to do it as a sideline, Unless of course I get really good:smack:

I can't do a full time course as I work full time and I'm 43!!!

I looked at Nail Essentials Home Study course. Does anyone know if it's any good or if they have done it and passed. Is it a recognised qualification?

I also found an 18 week evening course at a local college but they said I had to have done the VTCT Manicure & Pedicure course but I can't find near me until September. Also there are fast track courses. Everyone seems to have different qualifications. I don't know which is the best qualification to have.

I'm confused:irked:

Appreciate any help.

Hi hun do you mean Essential nails?

OOooops, yes

Got it wrong way round

I have done the gel and maintenance and have just started the acrylic course and really enjoy them.

There are pros and cons hun tbh if you chose to do home learn you need to have the determination to suceed and really work at it!! Many will say you should do a class room course but at the end of the day it personal choice and what works for you.

But if you chose to go with EN then YES you qualification IS recognised!! Most nail companys accept the EN cert the only one i know of that doesnt is creative. I now use NSI products with no problems. Also YOU CAN GET INSURANCE thats not a problem im with professional beauty direct and i know you can get insuarnce with the guild with an EN cert.

If you need any more help and advice please feel free to pm me any time.

Good luck x:hug:

Great imput from shell28, thanks.

Can I just check though that with Professional Beauty Direct that they will give you insurance from a home learning course? I was told by them (was over 3 years ago though) that they insisted that you received a 'certificate of Attendance of training' so a home study only course was not sufficient.

Would be interesting to see if they have changed there rules on this.

When i contacted them they asked where i had trained and it was not a problem hun.

Thank you.

I don't understand all this insurance stuff either.

I am very determined and I will sit for hours doing this, I love it.

I have always had bad nails myself, they are paper thin, I don't bite them but they are very soft and bend backwards. I have never found anything that works in strengthening them, they just break. I love to see nice nails and mine embarrass me. I had acrylics put on a few months ago but then soaked them off myself with acetone. They are even worse now and don't know what to do with them.

Thanks for your help

Hi Jane

This post really interested me as I am also looking into doing an Essential Nails course. I've chosen to do the acrylic one first thanks to people's feedback on here.

I work full time in admin so can't go to college, the home learning is the best option for me.

I can't wait until I can afford to send away for the course in March!

Let me know if you decide to go ahead with it and how you are getting on.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Diane :)

Hiya

Yes I was gonna do the acrylic one too.
I can only find one college course which starts soon on an evening but they say I have to have done a manicure/pedicure course first, but they don't do this until September. You would think they would include it or do that one first!!!

I will let you know if I send for the course.

Hi jellyjane,

I was in the same dilema over a year ago.

I opted for a 12 month course at our local college. It would give me a VCTV qualification at the end. And yes you do need to be able to do manicure before you go onto the Nail Tech course, but ours was incorporated into the nail Tech course.

My personal opinion of going to a local college, is i didnt feel i got taught correctly, and it was all a big rush. We had to do manicure after manicure for the first 4 months!!!
We spent so much time on manicures that when it came to doing Acrylics, we had to rush.

I dont feel confident doing nails, even though i do my own, my families. I feel i take too long, and i wasnt given the attention at college.

I am actually looking for a refresher course to go on. To get my Acrylic techniques right. And i want to learn how to do gel nails, nail art,e-drilling.

Good luck and i hope you find something that gives you full support.

Hi. I've just passed the new nail art course. It was brilliant fun to do. I don't normally reply to messages about EN because I get fed up with some of the negative comments about them. I've never had a problem with them and neither have any of my friends, so I'm guessing the people who put them down have never done a course with them so there comments aren't worth taking on board.
Good luck with what ever you choose.
