A client was due in with me tomorow for full set Acrylic tip overlay, she has just come to me at my request as she has cut down her nail with a knife making a sandwich, on examining the nail I think it would be better for her if I did her nails as planned as it is not that bad just a small nick in the nail plate but has gone down to the bed did bleed but when I have just cleaned it, it isnt bleeding now the nail is raised where it has been cut so will be troublesome catching etc, Do you think I will be ok to put a full set on today or should it be left to heal over for a day or so?

i would never apply any product over a broken nail especially if it is down to nail bed, it needs to heal and the product could easily get into the skin and irritate it

I agree....however you could always repair the broken nail in the meantime with a fibreglass wrap to protect it and help it heal.

seal the nail with some resin first and allow to dry and then it will be safe to proceed with the full set.

the medical grade adhesives that nail techs use are akin to products that are used in hospitals to seal wounds and will be quite safe. the addition of the acrylic overlay will protect the nail from further trauma as the damage grows out.

i wouldnt advise going overly long with the extension though as it may end up catching and causing problems at the weak spot.

I'd agree with what Susan says, with the addition of a generous dose of Scrubfresh in there first to kill anything that might be lurking! xx

This is exactly what I did I the end, sealed with resin then just applied clear acrylic overlay , it was much more comfortable once done. I have asked her to pop in on her way home from work at the end of the week so I can take a look and take it from there. Thank you all so much for your advice I thought I knew what to do but was a little apprehensive in doing so. A big sigh of relief to know that I was right to do so.

I didnt have any Scrubfresh but did have NSI Nail Pure so used that (similar thing I hope).

Thanks. xxx

Glad you got it sorted, I had a similar issue and the client was so amazed that there was no pain after it was applied compared to how much it had been hurting before.

Great little tip which I also learned from this site.

Yes Stephen arent people are just great on here,. She has text me this morn to say it is fine, but will still pop in on Fri. xxxx

yes nsi nail pure would have done the job fine as aswell as it cleansing, dehydrating etc.. it also leaves antimicrobial agents behind that continue to help prevent infection after the treatment.
can i ask what resin you used? just for future reference incase i ever get a similar client.
glad it went well for you and i know how you feel about the reasurance thing i still feel like that sometimes.x

I have the Millennium Fibreglass Kit I bought at the trade show last year along with some silk for natural nail repairs & wraps, it finally came in handy!
