Can anyone else help or knows where i am coming from? I wanted to stock Sothys skincare but have just realised that my clients simply won't pay the rrp on that range.

I am a mobile therapist and have enquired and received samples from:
Eve Taylor
Susan Molyneux
Priori
Gerards
Monu
essentially-yours. . .

to name a few, but nothing is ticking all the boxes for me, is any one using any thing different?? Please help i have trained with both Dermalogica and Darphin they are just not mobile friendly, are none of the facial ranges within reach for me or my clients any more?? ADVICE and HELP needed please, thank you

Why do you feel that they wont pay the price for Sothys? Not all of my clients are well-off, but they will purchase sothys retail from me because:

  • They love the way their skin looks and feels after a facial, compared with the products they are currently using.
  • I know my products inside out and can explain how their skin reacts to certain products, and how sothys products would change that.
  • I use the products religiously, and clients always comments on how great my skin is - it wasn't always great.
  • I rave about how fabulous the products are to anyone who will listen, clients get exited about product too when I do this.
I also use a simple retail technique that works without me having to be pushy and demanding about retailing. It's called "What, Why, How" For example:

(WHAT) "This cleanser would get you great results at home, it's called normalising beauty milk and is specially designed for a normal to combination skin like yours."

(WHY) "This would be fantastic for you to use at home because it will effectively cleanse your skin without making it feel tight or dry and will help combat excess oil flow."

(HOW) "It's simple to use and won't add any extra time to your morning routine, you can even use it while your in the shower. You only need a couple of small pumps, just apply all over your face and neck, then rinse thoroughly. Just follow this with your lotion and moisturiser."

Sorry for the essay, but I love sothys products so much and I started out the same way as you. I bought a cheaper range to begin with as I thought sothys was out of my reach working from home. I never sold a single product from my first range because I didn't love the products and didn't feel that clients would get amazing results by using them. Some of it is still sitting untouched in my back cupboard years later:cry:

Don't close your clients' wallets before they've even opened it! And don't make assumptions about what they can or can't afford.
Have you considered Swissdermyl? It's a very comprehensive range of products which will treat any skin type and condition, with no start up or minimum order. The margins are good, and the products are a polysensorial delight to use for both the therapist and the client.
[email protected] is the chap to contact.
I've been using it for 3 years and I have built my business on it.

Excellent advice there! People seem to constantly assume what a person is able or willing to afford, but fail to realise a couple of vital points:

A) not everyone has the same spending priorities, i.e. some people may have a small income, but they spend that mone according to their own predilections. Some of my lower income clients spend the most on my Decleor retail!

B) Value for money is nearly always more important to a client compared with "whats the cheapest". Often, when you consider the time the product lasts and the quality of ingredients/results achieved, a higher priced item will be better value.

Thank you everyone for your replys, i havent gone into it blindly i haven't just assumed that my clients cannot afford it, i have done research with them to find out how much they are prepared to spend, i know that this may change when they actually experience the treatments and products.

I am actually really impressed with Sothys but with the 20% vat increase and a 3% rise on the products im not sure if its viable to go with the range, i know it may seem like i am going on a bit but for me this is a big investment and i want to get it right.

Also the range seemed to be steered towards anti-ageing but what about my clients with oily skin and sensitive skin, are the products just as specialised for these skin types as they are for the anti-ageing range?

um, the VAT increase is actually 2.5% which actually adds very little really.
Have you asked Sothys about treating oily and sensitive skins? I'd be very surprised if they didn't have products for these skins!

Sothys caters to all skin types http://www.sothys.fr/EN/products_info.php?id=273

I would personally get the reps out from all those companys to talk to you as a few samples will tell you very little about a whole range, as proven by your assumption about Sothys, or even better go to the next beauty expo and speak to reps there.

I trained with Darphin and loved the products. I opened a home based salon and wanted something on the lines of Darphin but needed to be cheaper to my client's because In the salon I did work in we were finding client's were no longer buying Darphin products because of the price even thou client's loved the products. I choose Susan Molynuex the monu range and I love them and so do my client's. The once's that used Darphin say how nice they are, they smells lovely and client's are happy with the price. The collagen rich moisturiser is my popular selling cream.

Thanks everyone i have had a visit from the Sothys rep and there were a few products which were skimmed over for the sensitive and oily skintypes, the rep was lovely but bamboozled me a little with the anti ageing products.
It was the rep that told me that on top of the 2.5% vat increase (making it 20% vat) they have added 3% onto their product prices.

Thank you Kezza i did have some samples from the monu range, actually two lots and i was impressed with all of their literature and presentation but i don't know why but the products just didn't do any thing for me, but i found the same with me Darphin clients, thanks for your response!

I suspect the reason why they spent more time on the anti-ageing products is that this is what drives the majority of the market. Mature clients tend to have more time and more money, and even younger clients are generally looking to slow the ageing process!

Yes this is true, thank you for your feedback, now off to iron out my wrinkles lol :)

Kezza i was just wondering whether you had any further training with the monu range??

They do have great products that are for oily, sensitive, etc. These come in the fundamental package which is your initial opening order, then you can upgrade your range to take on their other ranges, such as anti-aging, organic, body treatments.

The fundamental range has some amazing products and these would be used along with the anti-aging products as this range includes all your basics such as cleansers, exfoliants, etc. You have a range of products designed to treat 5 different skin types/problems and are designed to be used as a course of treatment only, after you have achieved the desired results you would start incorporating the anti-aging products into your routine.

I did do a two day training with Monu. It was free when I bought the products. It was helpful, it's like all companies they have there own massage and picked up tips for selling etc.
