can anyone tell me what the next two numbers in this sequence are? my son has just come and asked me (he knows the answer btw) but for the life of me I can't think of them! he says if I can get them right he is going to wash my car tomorrow for me:lol: so please if anyone can help out here:hug:

1, 8, 27, 64, 125, ?, ?

216 and 343

I googled it

A cubic number is a figurate number of the form n^3 with n a positive integer. The first few are 1, 8, 27, 64, 125, 216, 343, ... (Sloane's A000578). The protagonist Christopher in the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time recites the cubic numbers to calm himself and prevent himself from wanting to hit someone (Haddon 2003, p. 213).

The generating function giving the cubic numbers is
(x(x^2+4x+1))/((x-1)^4)=x+8x^2+27x^3+....

216, 343 its the sequence cubed, eg 2 cubed is 8, 3 cubed is 27, 4 cubed is 64). To continue the sequence, 5 cubed is 125, etc kx

Are you sure the last number isn't 168? as thats just adding 8 onto each one......

he says definatley 167!!!

damnit, i found 2 sequences that would work if it was 168 lol

I'm thinking add 8 x 5 times, then add 7 x 5 times, so I'm GUESSING at 174 :D

Don't take my word for it though, no google searches, just guessing

I think.................175 and 183, but I could be way off with my thinking. I am just using individual number sequences as opposed to looking at them as a whole number, but i did google the sequence and it agree with me, although it appeas to be something to with critical values for sign tests  (Trigonomtery was never my strong point!)

Least it should get your car washed
