Putting this in chit chat as it's not a question. I just had my hair done in a Japanese run salon and was interested to see what was done differently if anything. I thought I would pass on the things I enjoyed to hair geeks as you may want to do them yourselves.

The wash basin chairs folded back so that I was vertical from the waist up which was more comfortable (not totally, but so much better than usual).

After shampooing and conditioning a hot towel from a towel cabinet was put under my hairline on my neck (where it was leaning against the bowl) while my hair was squeezed and towel dried which was really nice and soothing.

I was given a short shiatsu massage-pressure points on the shoulders and neck before my hair was cut. This was especially good as going to the hairdresser makes me stressed and this started off the experience on a good footing.

She cut my hair slightly longer than I requested and then checked it when dry and then cut into it to suit my face.

The best bit of all is that I actually like my haircut. Also this is the first time I have been told my hair is in good condition (it always is as I take care of it) and so was not told I needed a deep conditioning (at extra cost!)

This sounds like heaven. I often do that with a wet cut, then do the shaping when dry (called personalisation). Did you find that the price was more expensive than usual. xx

They have wash basins like this in an Aveda salon in Hong Kong. Was a bit strange at first but quite relaxing. You're sitting buy lying back.

Sarah poppy, it was at the lower end of the market for where I live £32

Tweezerhappy-I know what you mean, at first I thought the sink was far too far back and then she tilted the chair!

I really like the sound of the backwashes!

Izzidol they looked like pretty basic chairs so I would think they wouldn't be that pricy but they were so much more comfy! I'm going to look them up and will post if I find a pic x

Had a look and they must have imported them as I can't see them anywhere.

The one's they had in HK didn't move. They were like a big block of wood with a cushioned seat at the end and you lay back to the basin. It was really nice. In a separate room, away from all the noise, dim lighting. Very relaxing.
