When i first opened my salon 5 months ago i wasnt too sure whether paraffin wax manicures and pedicures would be a popular treatment so i just brought a little wax heater from elissons which was ideal for small salons and did it job well-it was one where you'd just sit the paraffin wax pot into the heater and brush on the application.
However now im finding this method very messy as im ending up with wax everywhere on the floor the towels my shoes even though my trolley is near me by the time i apply to the area it cools so quickly it i just get a build up on wax on my brush even though i work as fast as i can.
Ive tried adjusted the temperature settings but when it melts to much its far too hot and runny and even when it cools abit doesnt give enough time for application resulting in a mess everywhere, it makes it diffucult when you have a client striaght after so i was thinking of purchasing a paraffin wax bath heater where they can dip their hands/feet in.
I thought this way would be easier and save me alot of time too i just wanted to find out if this was the preferred method for other therapists but again i worry clients might say its too hot even if i check the temp it different when their placing their entire foot/hand in it?
anny advice fellow geeks please ty

Hello
There is a company that has a spray on system, i think it is Beauty pro, you heat the cartridges up in a heater, much like the roll on wax system, I am not sure if spraying on paraffin would be more messy though.
You can also fill a plastic bag (big enough for the hands or feet depending on what you are doing and fill the bag with enough paraffin for the area and let the client put their hand or feet in the bag. The paraffin will set and this method also makes it super easy to get it off.For the hands you can use disposable clear gloves, fill the glove fingers half way with paraffin and ask the client to put their hands in the glove. There are really clean methods.
Didn't you do it this way at college?
Anyway hope this helps.:)

no we used the brush on method at college with plastic cups lol all these different ways of doing it lol
interesting though never thought of the bag/glove idea ill have to give it ago anythings got to be better than the mess lol
i thought though with hygiene it didnt matter as much its similar to waxing the bacteria doesnt survive in the hotness of the wax

Hive do a spray on paraffin wax...i just took delivery of mine and cant wait to try it out.

Hi Ruby,
I always use the plastic or foil for waxing hands and feet, I was taught this way at college, when the wax has melted it is always watery and the idea is to apply the wax before it hardens and turns white, like princessfifi said the plastic bags stop the wax from going everywhere. :)

Just a quick question, while we're on the subject....how do you get the wax into the bag/gloves without creating mess all over the place??!! I've got visions similar to when I get creative icing a cake!! All that mess trying to get it into the bag in the first place!!!

Sorry, all I ever did at college was to immerse the client's hand or foot into the bath!!

Hi Bombalurina

You have to use a measuring cup to get the paraffin out of the heater, then you carefully fill up the bag or glove, the only thing is that you have to clean the paraffin off the measuring cup.
I would rather dip the hand or foot in the bath as well, it is the easiest method, apparently according to regulations in the USA the heat is not strong enough to kill the bacteria.

I have a paraffin wax bath but it honestly takes hours to heat up:mad: so I use a normal waxer with the paraffin wax in and brush it on,but that is messy, I like the idea of the plastic gloves, I'm going to try that one! how do you do it with foil?

the only problem with dipping hands and feet into wax is sanitation..we have small bags that came with our paraffin wax bath so just scoop it into the bag as said before and place hands or feet into bag and wrap with a small hand towel to keep warm...or get the really cool booties and mitts:!:they work great too
