Is anyone watching this on bbc 3??
It started by the woman saying "anyone can open and run a salon WITHOUT qualifications" yeah if you dont to be insured!

Can see alot of people being put off by treatments because of rubbish untrained therapists being put to shame on the program.

Yep watching it now!

I make sure all my certificates and insurance certificate are up on the wall so they can see im qualified and insured.

Scary though whats happened to those poor girls!

Yep do feel bad for them but why would you get anything other than your lobes pierced at a beauty salon??

There's a local salon in Shrewsbury that also does belly piercing and whatnot... they did my belly button about 5 years ago and it's been fine.

Those microdermal piercings like on the telly programme do look very specialised though - and something I would only ever get a specialised piercer to do (except I wouldn't get that sort of piercing anyway)...

Sorry my bad i worded that wrong lol i meant something as specialised as a microdermal piercing in a beauty salon x

With all the government regualtions on most things nowadays, I would not blame a regular person for going into a salon and getting anything done. Usualy if something dodgy is going on they wouldnt be expected doing it on a busy high street for all to see. Well not in the beauty industry im afraid to say.
Look at all the non standard salons blatently trading not using the right equipment and sanitation and damaging peoples nails and risking infections.
I think programs like this are good because they show that going cheap/unsafe/unqualified never pays off. I trust that everyone on here is offering a professional, high end service.
I am sure that this program will uncover a few cowboys, so the clients dont just take our word for it, see we are offering a top notch service that can be trusted. And that our certificates and sanitation, consultation etc MEAN something, that we are in a different league from the cheap and tacky places.
Notice the girl went to get a 25 pound weave, to avoid paying the 125, it makes you realse how dangerouse going to these discount salons are! x

Very good point about the £25 weave... there's got to be a reason that they're offering it for a fifth of the price... sadly it's rather a case of "No Sh*t Sherlock" that you're a lot more likely to experience problems if you try and get things done on the cheap... the NSS nail salons using MMA and counterfeit products being a prime example!

Yes it will be interesting to watch it - its a 5 part series.

I did think it could have been done better. Re: the hair extentions firstly are you not supposed to get your extensions taken out professionally? did that girl not rip them off and cause the damage herself? And why didn't Jess watch someone having a proper head of extentions done as she did with the piercing.

It was a little to simplistic for me - I would have liked more detail.

I thought the manager of the piercing place handled the interview very well.

I watched this as well last night, I can't believe next weeks eyelashes put on with super glue!!!

I agree with you I thought the salon manager handled the interview well, but to be honest the presenter didn't really press him too hard on anything.

The programme was interesting but I found it very annoying that the presenter repeated herself so often, I knew the girl had had a microdermal piercing that resulted in scarring....did she really need to keep telling us every 5 minutes...even my short term memory isn't THAT bad !!
The time they spent recapping could have been better spent with more content in the programme.

Also I think the 'client' responsiblities to homecare and looking after the likes of weaves, extentions, nails etc after a treatment should be included in the programme.
It was all a bit onesided.

I also thought the bloke did a good job of looking professional and sticking up do his business.

He did also say the girl didn't come back in when she rang them to say the ball had come off so I'm not surprised it may of healed over. (If that was the truth anyway).
There's always 2 sides to a story!

Can't wait for the next one just not keen on the presenter lol.

I would have liked to watch this, are the previous episodes available online anywhere?

cant wait to watch the next episode to see the lady that put eyelashes on with superglue-how HORRIFIC! the £25 weave was kind of expected, this is incredibly cheap for any sort of extension, including clip-ins! good hair doesnt come cheap and anyone that has trained professionally to do them wouldnt usually offer them at such a ridic price!x

I am a salon based nail technician, waxer & body piercer.

I've been a trained body piercing professional for 15 years, I offer microdermals & skindivers as well as pretty much every other piercing.

It is entirely possible to be a body piercing specialist in a salon environment, & entirely possible to be a terrible body piercer in a piercing-only establishment.

I just thought I'd share that for the sake of balance & food for thought.

:)

Ooh. I will have to watch this!!!

That makes perfect sense to me! I guess it's safest never to make assumptions and generalisations. The piercer at the salon in Shrewsbury actually did a better job on my belly button than when I got it done the year before at the actual body piercing shop! The first time I had it done at the body piercing shop, I only kept it in a few months because it kept giving me gyp. But I had a lot less problems the second time round with the one done at the salon.

So saying, I don't think I'd be getting microdermals done by anyone, as they don't really appeal to me. Wouldn't mind getting my nose pierced again one day though.
