Can anyone give me any tips to get an even colour without putting on too thickly. Also when you put the clear base colour on does anyone leave a gap from the cuticle so that you can taper the first colour layer from the cuticle to achieve a thinner smoother look?:smack:

I just started to doing gel so this is quite interesting, my way is do the 1st coat as thin as pos and 2nd coat a little more gel but not too thick. I found it very important is take just enough gel for every nail if too much it will make the nail look not smooth, hope it help and keep pratice more. All the best to you gel baby :)

nks for that - do you find that the first layer of colour, particularly a dark one, can look quite patchy. And have you heard of not taking the clear base coat right up to the cuticle ?

I don't use any clear if doing a colour, just a wetting layer, then two coats of same colour I use calgel which I think is quite like bio hth xx

After much frustration with coloured gel i find the easiest way (for me anyway) is to apply each layer thinly until i get the colour depth i want, which could be up to 4, but they are very thin. seems to avoid the bulbous tips that you can sometimes get if you put it on too thickly. Hth's :)

How long does it take you to complete a set over overlays if you do so many layers?

I could be wrong but i believe that bio which you use does need to have a clear base on it whereas Calgel colours dont, you can just literally use 2 coats of colour and if your depths ok leave it at that i dont always put clear on top either ,just a top coat,so not sure the calgel users will be any good helping you.

You might like to join the Bio Sculpture group on here. Pose your questions there and see if you get other ideas/answers. I always find the groups very interesting. HTH's

i just brush it on like polish - under 1 min per layer, cure 2 or 3 mins per layer and working on the other hand as i go, takes about 20mins - as opposed to faffing around getting thicker layers even. it Doesn't take me any longer doing it this way and i know that i'm going to get a full cure. Try it and see if it works for you!

Hi at work wen i use coloured gels to get an even look i put a layer a clear and 2 of colour and the 2nd layer of colour i make quite thick, i then buff it as tho it wer a set of gel nails or overlay and then put a gel top coat over it to give a shiny finish x

thanx for all your comments - will keep practicising x:lol:
