Sorry if i sound stupid but I am still fairly new to this and just starting to go out into the public domain and did not do any patch tests on any of my guinea pigs although they were all offered but refused!

Do I just dab a bit of solution on a cotton wool bud behind their ear, is this the best place to do this?

Thanks, TT

Hiya yes thats what I do just dap a bit on a cootonbud and rub it behind the ear I only do this as soon as I arrive then get client to fill in record card while I set up my tent and gun, I know some people say oh you need to wait 24hrs but thats impossible when spray tanning.

Good luck

Cassi

same here two, thats what i do. Dab behind the ear. And 100% get them to fill a disclaimer form.

Thanks very much, I wasn't 100% sure and didn't want to look like I didn't know what I was doing!

I totally agree, it is not always possible to do a patch test so far in advance and it means making two trips to the clients house but I suppose that is worth it if they become a regular client and recommend your services to others.

Hi Cassie...well done you for being vigilent on this subject

The 24 hr recommendation is there for an ideal world but of course the reality is somewhat different.
The main thing is to undertake a patch test with new customers and or solutions being used for the first time on customers....if ,for practical reasons, you cant do the test 24hrs before hand well do it as soon as you arrive at the customers and by the time you are set up ready to go the likelihood of any adverse reactions would have started to appear by then.

Whilst disclaimers are a good thing to do with customers who refuse a patch test these disclaimers may not necessarily stand up in a court of law in the event things go horribly wrong so just bear that in mind with those that say no to a patch test

HTH

Thank you Collin I picked up that cotton bud patch test Idea from your kind self

I send a patch test kit out to all my new clients along with their record card and pre advice slip, this way when I get there everything is ready to go!
My kit is: Instructions on where to patch test, a tiny little paint pot with a small amount of product, 1 glove, a cotton wool stick.

Hope this helps x

That's a great ides! Well done! Do you send it in a little plastic baggie and padded envelope? How much does it usually cost you in postage?

Thanks

xx

Normally postage - First Class or I drop in to clients who are near :) I use money bags, and a normal a5 size envelope.

I know I keep harking on about it, but I really think that the matter of customer safety and insurance should not be taken lightly.

With regards to insurance cover, it's between your individual insurance company and product manufacturer to decide how patch testing should be carried out and not hearsay or guesswork. If you deviate from what they advise and something goes wrong then you will be liable:eek:

In my case (Salon Gold & Sienna X) I have to do a 24 hour patch test on any client who has never had a spray tan before, has sensitive skin or has had a reaction from spray tan in the past. I stick to this religiously and the vast majority of my clients are happy to oblige. The ones who don't, don't get a spay tan from me:)

This 24 hour patch test doesn't affect me because I'm in a salon but, if for one reason or another, you can't then make sure you're using a product that recommends a 10 min patch test and an insurance company that accepts this.

I have my insurance with babtac they do not require 24 hr patch test on spray tanning its one of the reasons I went with them.
