Hi,

I think some one can give me an advice where to buy a sterilise device.

I would like to sterilise my cuticle metal tools. I would also like to sterilise my tools due to using machine to do acrylic.

I did have an uv light device. However, I was advised it was not professional device to sterilise.

I am looking for some kinds of ovens or some thing like medical sterilise in hospital... but it should be small enough to place in the shop.

otherwise I have to continue using boiling water at 100 C for 5 mins to sterilise me tools.

I am living in London. Please help.

You're not performing surgery so barbicide will suffice :)

You can get everything you need from mundo

I think it is great that you are thinking so conscientiously about sanitation but in a nail salon, there really is no need to sterilize your metal tools as disinfection will suffice on an every day basis. You can do this very rapidly using the Mundo 5 minute disinfection system. It is so simple and practical for the salon or mobile use and is less expensive as you don't need loads of sets of tools to use while others are in an autoclave.

If you really are determined to buy a small autoclave for sterilising then I would think google will help you to find a supplier.

I also use Mundo products. They are fab :) xx

Hi

You can buy small UV sterilising cabinets that fit on your worktop.

Top to Toe beauty at www.salonsdirect.com have a couple in their equipment section (pages 53) for around £55.00. These are ideal for manicure/pedicure metal implements.

I think some one who use machine to do acrylic will agree with me.

dealing with very very close cuticle while the clients keep talking and moving their hands. Or they suddently move to grab the mobile phone to answer the call

*Essay Alert* :)

Edit to add: I've just re-read your opening post, & an important thing for you to know, is that boiling your tools for 5 mins will not sterilise your tools. :)

Barbicide etc are great for cold soaking, but you can make it work even harder by putting your solution into an Ultrasonic cleaner.
The ultrasonic works by sending impulses (i think thats the right word lol) into the liquid, which then vibrate any dirt & dust etc off your instruments, & then the solution sterilises even more thoroughly as its working on an already clean-ish instrument.
HERES an example of an Ultrasonic Cleaner. :)

I believe UV cabinets are used to store your instruments after another method of sterilisation (soaking, ultrasonic, autoclaving), so in effect you are just protecting the tools from airborne pathogens in a sterile environment, not actually sterilising them.

Autoclaves:
Brilliant option,
if you get a vacuum model, you can autoclave your tools in autoclave-bags, where they stay, all lovely & sterile until you need them.
You need to use an ultrasonic cleaner before you bag the tools.
A vacuum autoclave will easily cost you in excess of £2000!
Or you can pick up a non-vacuum model (Prestige make the most popular ones) for under £500.
You dont use autoclave bags in these,
but once you've autoclaved your tools, you could simply put them into an autoclave bag ( or UV Cabinet? :) ) for clean storage, they'll no longer be sterile, though still plenty clean enough for really hygienic nail services.

Hth's :)

hi im looking at same at mo
habia guidelines suggest glass bead sterilsers and uv cabinets are not sufficient
metal tools have to be steam cleaned.
ive looked at auto claves ouch!!
however it states on habia website tools must be steam cleaned to 134c, having looked into products and on salongeek baby bottle sterilisers heat to over 200c so i've just orderd one of these. i will disinfect metal implement after use, then steam then i also use carltons sterisafe solution to store sterilised tools in once sterilised. they can then be sat in clean barbicide until use. then cycle starts again. i feel this is sufficient uv cabinet is only surface sterile so only really good for nail files etc

Habia guidelines recommend DISINFECTION not sterilisation!

Nail salons are not operating theatres!

Extra precautions need to be taken if tools have come into contact with body fluids and this procedure is explained.

UV cabinets ARE NOT sterilisers! They maintain an atmosphere that is pathogen free so the tools in there are only as clean as when they were put in. These are not practical for a nail salon.

If you are using an e-file near the skin and are worried about accidents involving skin damage I suggest you don't use the e-file in that area or stop using them with fidgety clients. Habia recommend that e-files are NOT used on the natural nail and this area will always have natural nail exposed!

Habia have produced a Nail Salon Code of Practice that is available as a free download or as a booklet for a small fee. EVERY salon should have one, follow the guidelines and even have available for clients to read

True,
but in an environment where we are in contact with peoples skin & nails, & because bodily fluids are not always easily evident, we ought to assume every tool we use is contaminated, & sterilise accordingly.
I truly believe this is a massive oversight in the nail industry.
IMO all tools & implements should be sterilised or disposeable.

agreed.
I believe our tools should be sterilised between uses, but I dont see a need for them to remain sterile, just lovely & clean.

I wouldnt be surprised if one day the health & safety regs on this subject were changed,
& i personally would applaud a more 'operating theatre' type of approach.

I don't think any change is going to happen. It would be nice however if EHO would enforce the correct working practices!

the HSE have been carrying out several research projects on the subject of H&S in nail salons and I've been involved in all of them.

The guidelines in place are correct for the specific commercial environment, they just need enforcing (technicians also need to actually know about them too!) However, there may be some additional guidelines for dust control and some recommendations for better education.

A robust disinfection procedure is what is needed for all salons (and mobiles). This is realistic and commercial. But if you just read the posts on this thread you can see the total confusion on what is what! Plus what is and how to avoid contact with body fluids is also so confused!
