OK. I just did this nail, I wanted to practice a stiletto. This is my first try at one of these. So... Is it a Stiletto or an Oval?
Man, this one long one makes typing hard!

stiloval

I'd bring in the sides a little more for a stiletto, or round the tip a bit more for an oval. It looks really good btw!!

Personally I would say this is oval.

BTW I am loving those other nails you have on, what are they?

I'm leaning towards "Almond"
The end is not pointy enough and the sides not taper enough for stilletoe, but it's too pointy for oval.

So, Almond.
Smack in between.

hth's

Looks oval to me

Very good work

I would say oval, but I like it that way, would love a full set of these, how did you do them? x

I would say long almond. Oval is definitely less pointed than this nail.

Stilleto nails are even more extremely pointed and narrow. Look in my album for the ruby red slipper for the stilleto style.

Nice work.

Looks oval to me too.

I'd call this an almond....not round enough for an oval, not pointy enough for a stiletto.

I love my almonds....very flattering shape!

I would say oval too, but it's gorgeous, as is the colour you've used on the other nails ... what it is btw?

I agree. The almond shape is one of the most feminine and flattering nail styles for almost any woman. This particular nail is a tad long for my liking but nicely done.

Almond is also a great shape for nail technicians to wear themselves as you do not spoil the shape whilst working hard every day!

When you wear almond shaped nails, suddenly clients are asking for that shape instead of the 'porn star' aggressive shape we see so often.

Makes a nice change. IMO

I love square round or squoval for short natural-looking nails but hate it when they are over long ... to me they look masculine and not flattering to most hands. IMO

It needs to be more pointed to be a stiletto.
Lovely nail though well done x

My old ladies adore nails like these lol! Typical 50's movie star nails. Not my taste but certainly a lot more flattering than a stumpy square lol!

I'd say long almond too, but you're not too far away! Good luck, nice work.

I guess I fit into that category  but actually I do not entirely agree.

More and more young people are asking for the almond shape. I think your ladies wear predominantly what YOU like.

Try yours oval and see what happens!! :)

Thanks everyone! I did this with a clear OPI Structure tip and some glittery gell I mixed up. The rest of them are just plain old gels, I haven't done them in a week or so. The color is really odd... I mixed a shimmery red with some black pigment powder and it turned into this really dark purple. It's a nice color but most of the time it almost looks black. At work it is Really purple-blue and outside it's a dark brown!!
So I need to file in the sides more and make a dagger point! My babies aren't going to like this!!

Lol and me then ,
I'm 28 and always wear oval / almond shape,
Same reasons as mentioned above,
It suits my hands , makes them look more femine, and I dont ruin them when working,
I am also less likely to break one when opening the car boot etc :irked:
I always break or catch them if i have square or rounded square,
and ALWAYS file off the corners...very annoying !

Go almond-oval !!!!

How about a 'dare to be different' club where we actually do nails that suit the clients' hands instead of banging out the same old shape on everyone??

Very true but when you say to someone 'well a nice soft oval would suit your hands better' How many times to you get 'well no, I would really like a really sharp square!' xx

In my experience most teks do not make the offer to the client, but if you do bravo!!

At the end of the day the client IS allowed to have her own preferences and ideas and we must go along with that.

Always good to have some beautiful images of the different styles so they can clearly see what is on offer instead of just a verbal recommendation.

If they try oval and do not like it .. they can grow into a nice squoval in 4-6 weeks with regular maintenance. Most, once they try it do like it though and their HUSBANDS love it. Many men are actually not too keen on the 'square thing'.

OK. How about this? How do you keep the sides from getting all crazy? One side is ok, but the other side is very "arched".
