Hiya

I had my sienna x training in april i have since done about 30 spray tans for friends and family and i have had mixed results.

I manage to do a perfect spray tan on a slim girl as soon as they start getting bigger than a 12/14 i struggle i think this might be cos when i done the training all the girls were quite slim.

the larger ladies seem to get smudges under their armpits.

I am going to be starting up as a mobile beauty therapist mid Oct but would like to start spray tanning first to build a client base which i can then offer my other servces

I am however terrified because i know not all tans turn out perfect and if i was a client i would want perfection

any words of advice greatly apreciated

Sam

Make sure you don't spray directly into the armpit to start with. The other thing you need to do with larger ladies is make sure they dont touch skin to skin to start with... so when you have sprayed their arm and inner torso... they need to keep their arm away from their torso for a few moments to dry. This will help to avoid getting the darker patches. I also use some salon talc with a huge dusing brush and everso lightly dust under their arm pit, around their neck, inside the elbow and behind their knees to set the tan ... it helps them feel less sticky too.

Make sure you are not spraying too wet and spray lighly around the armpit and not directly into it.

Perfect advice Jen

Sam no one goes from training to expert in one hit...it takes lots of practise and whilst we all have different learning curves and natural talent at what we do it takes us all a lot of work to gain experience.

By far the best way of learning is through our mistakes and willingness to ask for help..which you have done .

Dont go getting yourself all on a downer...practice makes perfect.

Good luck and keep on trying

What % did you do her ?? Is it for a competition or something the reason she wants to be so dark ?? x

spray again I was badgered into doing this the first year I was tanning.. a lass wanting to go to a rave. She had had a St Tropez on the Monday when she came to me on the Thursday... I said she looked already dark and suggested that she had no more than 10% to which she agreed. The next day she came back and said she 'needed' to be darker and I told her the pitfalls of respraying at this stage... too much dha for the skin to tolerate.... but she was insistent. I wrote all the details on her record card and she signed to say she was fully aware that the tan would be uneven, patchy and not fade very well. She said.. its ok as long as it looks good tonight!!! She could have ruined my reputation.... it must have looked horrendous the next few days.

or just tell them straight I do now... its not worth it. I just advise them. I would not respray now with two high %'s in such a short time.

they dont understand that spray tan works with the melalin on our bodies soi - we cant control it Excactly... even when you explain to some people it just doenst register with them.

Sounds like she had already had too much solution/dha on her skin already then if she was dripping wet.... get her to rub some gravey browing in lol!!!!

There are some dark chocholate coloured tans on the market.. but they are not suitable for everyone.... this is why we used to see a lot of tango'd people walking around... thankfully these days a lot of tanning companies have the option of various % dha solutions which helps to chose a suitable one for each client... and you don't see that many tango'd folk up and down thankfully. :)

Melanin is not affected by DHA - the cells don't even come into contact with the DHA, its work by reacting with the bodies amino acids...

(i trained 2 girls yesterday, one in the morn and one in the afternoon, so this was still fresh in my mind!! not been a clever clogs :green:)

You are right Gemma that Melanin is not affected with the DHA... however... if the body doesnt tan well naturally in the sun ie not enough melanin in the skin.... then you can't put a lot of dha onto the skin as it won't go that dark either.. just orange.

The DHA just sits on the amino acids in the Stratum Corneum layer (top layer) and attaches itself to the dry skin cells, which is as we know is why the client is asked to exfoliate before having their tan.
