Im quite dark skinned so dont need either, sunbeds are more popular in my area with clients, im in NE Scotland.

hiya, i just wated to let u know the following so that u don't come to any harm from ur sunbed exposure. i have had severe psoriasis in the past and have been advised to go on UVA sunbeds by top dermatologists in London. ultimately i did get rid of the disorder, having sufferd from 80% coverage, from the ages of 9-19, after sunbathing for 3 weeks, in 45 degree heat in the dead sea, israel for 10 hours/day. Believe me it was damn hard work and it wasn't the Dead Sea Water as i never went in it. Of course i was under the supervision of docs there who specialise in 'climatic' treatment.

HOWEVER, according to all climatic docs as, far as their research suggests, and there has been a lot done,(+ many western dermatologists believe this too) psoriatics have a certain protection again skin cancer- don't know how or why but they do. the incidence of skin cancer amoungst psoriatics is very very very low, especially taking into account how much sun exposure they seek in a lifetime. its apparently the only one plus side to having the skin disorder.

just thought i wud mention this as i wudn't want u 2 cum to harm.
take care
love & hugs 2 all

Thanks for the info - it is really interesting

I think as with everything you do, you have to take precautions and do it in moderation!

On Monday, as part of the school health week, the parents accompanied their children on a 2 mile walk - we started at 9.15 am and returned a couple of hours later - by which time I had already "caught the sun".

I'm really pleased that the climatic treatment has worked for you and it is something positive I can pass onto the people who require treatment for psoriasis.

Well, as they say, the only safe tan is a fake tan! St Tropez lotion for me on the rare occasions I can be bothered.

I´m fair-skinned and have learned to live with it and the unfortunate consequences. I now have a skin graft on my face where a large basal cell carcinoma was removed earlier this year. I´ve never used sunbeds and would never recommend them - especially not now - and can never understand beauty salons that have sunbeds. At the very least UVA exposure ages the skin - maybe these salons are trying to drum up customers for their anti-ageing treatments. :irked:

i voted spray tan as I want to be sun safe !!!!

im herts/beds border.

I voted Spray Tan.

I am fair skinned and tend to burn in the sun, also I would not want to risk the skin damage from UV rays.

From my Chemistry background, I know that DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is a safe product, and just reacts with the epidermis (top layer of skin) to give the colour and doesn't penetrate any deeper.

Hi I'm in Cheshire and I voted both as I love spray tans and the colour I get from them but I also use a sunbed a couple of times before going on holiday as I get really bad prickly heat and the sunbed helps with this. xx

spray tans for me and im in essex :green:
