is it just me or can anyone elae NOT stand being called hun!! it seems to be the in thing at the moment i cant bare it its horrible as is babe!!why not just call the person by there name my friends do it to winde me up now and it works!!!!:irked:

I think on-line people use it so that you know that what they have written is intended in a friendly matter because words can be read different ways.
Personally it doesn't bother me, I call my mates chick or chickie dee:lol:

now chick is not so bad !! tee hee

I agree with Ria in that I see it as a friendly word, sometimes it annoys me but most of the time it's ok

I use the word 'chica' quite a bit, I do it in "real-life" too...
Thank your lucky stars I don't call everyone "sweet-chops" which is another word I tend to use quite a bit LMAO

Could be worse, the terms of endearment we call each other at work is mole or bitch.

Hi Cathill

I agree with Ria and Sandi. I tend to use this a lot when replying to a thread or post, especially if I don't know their 'real' name, or in text messages too.

It's not anything new, I've been using it for years!

xx

I'm guilty of saying it but then I say it in real life and have always done. Probably because as a child my aunty called every one hun or hunny. I dont see it any different to how the women in my family call some one 'love' wether they know them or not. My Mum, aunties, Nans, they all do/did it and even walking into shops and being served when I visit family in London they call you 'love'.

I'll refrain from now on then but I do think posts read as very friendly when people use their turns of speech.

I don't mind what anyone calls me, as long as its not before 7am...

I see it as a affectionate term...its meant to be nice....but i do prefer babe/chick.

you see i dont mind love or chick or mole or bitch!! haha just hun and babe .......:smack:

We can't please everyone all of the time Min! :green: Most people say hun, love, chicken, sweetpea, flower etc etc etc as a term of endearment or friendliness so I can't really see the problem with it. There are many things in life that get on our nerves but we can't put a stop to them all can we  I remember a geek once saying she had a problem with the word Squoval .... it just grated on her nerves .... but its a word a lot of us use and she didnt expect us not use it any more, just mearly pointed out that it was a very annoying word to her.

I am sure Cathil doesnt want you to stop using your pleasantries Min...

or "honey-pie"???

I think life's too short hun

Don't let it wind you up sweetie:hug:

My kids get called sweetie pie, chicken chops, monkey chops, sausage, popsicle, precious pudding etc...... They are terms of endearment and my girls love it.

When I first joined geek, it used to bother me a little especially if I was being called hun by an 18 year old as I found it patronizing. However, remembering back to my nursing days, I called my elderly patients 'love' and they didn't mind and they called me 'my dear' and I didn't mind.

It doesn't bother me at all now. I agree that it adds to the smileys and xxxxx and for me it is just another part of the geek language we have come to know so well eg. pmsl, ROTFLMAO, peeps etc..........

no im not saying dont say it! each to thier own just gets on me nerves but hey thats my problem just wondered if anyone else shared my hatred!! haha obviously not!!

I never ever use it in real life, but i call absolutely everybody love, written though that can sound a bit harsh iykwim so i use hun but would hope people would never be annoyed by it

only me love but i woulnt worry about that!!

I often feel awkward using the word 'hun' but it's tricky to find another word that gives a friendly tone but without being patronising....... So I will use it but not all the time!! A lot of my clients call me hun in text messages - particularly if they want to rearrange their appt, lol!!

100% agree. I always cringe when I put it on the end of my replies, however, I struggle to find an alternative to give the same meaning xx
