Hello All,
I was just wondering how much time everyone is allowing for Shellac. I was putting in 30-45mins before, but I found I was rushing and not applying it properly.
I have now set an hr out and I can do proper 'pep'ing! Is this too long?
How long are you all spending on Shellac?

We get an hour just now but I think we'll be expected to shorten that as we get more used to the product x

I allow 30 min, 10 min or so prep depending on client then application, working well so far.

I would allow an hour, also. 10 mins. to 'soak', 5 mins. to remove with orangewood stick and the rest for PEP and application. :)

30 minutes for Shellac ... the 10 minutes it takes to remove is done while I am finishing off another client. 5-10 minutes to PEP the nails and the rest for painting them. I think an hour is way too long and defeats the whole purpose of Shellac.

If the client is wanting and payng for a manicure PLUS Shellac then I would allow an hour.

It takes an hour for a full set of enhancments, Why would I charge so much less for the same time to apply Shellac (which one would have to do) ?? Shellac should be a quick service on it's own !

It takes an hour for a full set of enhancments,

I wish :D maybe some day...

But I agree, I'm a rubbish painter and wanna be better, this mean I have to set 1 hour aside. For now already (3 weeks time since shellac) I can see my timing is comming down... Clearly painting is sadly a thing I have neglected in my education:o and need to practise...

Thanks all! I know the timing is coming down. I'm aiming for 30 mins as well! Its just that a few clients have come in with AWFUL nails. It took about 20mins just to shape and PEP the nails!!!

We are charging £52 for Shellac, as our manicures are £32. I remember we were told at the event to put a 50% to 100% markup from a normal mani.
I know if I can do it in 30mins then I'll be able to do 2x as many, and in essence earn 2x as much as I do now.

I'm on it!!!! I just want the quality of my work to match the price!!!

£52!! Yikes.
I can understand putting 50% on to the price of a shape and polish but adding £20 to the price of a manicure is a lot
So in effect you are charging £20 just to have shellac added on to your manicure. It would probably be cheaper to have a full manicure with no polish and then have a file and shape and polish wouldn't it, or am i missing something??!!

But, although it sounds expensive, if customers are paying £32 a week for their manicure then they are paying £64 every 2 weeks and only getting regular enamel colour. With shellac they will save themselves money (£12) as they only get it done fortnightly and get a superior colour product too.

I see what you're saying and that's why i can understand adding on 50% for a shape and polish.
Clients who book in for a shape and polish may very well change to coming in once a fortnight.
Clients who come in for a manicure every week want more than a polish and, if they are coming in every week for a manicure then they will continue to do so. They obviously want a manicure every week, otherwise they would just book in for a shape and polish and for those clients it seems a lot to pay. I guess seeing as shellac lasts 2+ weeks then they probably won't need their nails polished as often though. I just think £20 extra for the polish is a lot when the cost of a polish is included in a manicure. Yes add some on as it's taking more time, i just think it seems a lot. Only my opinion though :D

Yes I see where your coming from now- I hadn't thought enough about the cost of a file and polish alone personally as I don't offer it.
I suppose much of it depends on the cost of a file and polish still as if thats say £15 they will still be saving having the shellac full mani.
Many customers for a file and polish service may still prefer it as they only have to come in once every 2 weeks and they will get a much better lasting finish so I think many would even pay double the cost of a file and polish, still saving themselves an extra trip to the salon.

I wish i could charge that much! :(

I woudl be so happy if i could earn £100 an hour!! but then i see that pamperedbeauty is from london... and even when i was at college (in london) manicures were £15-£20 im sure? it was hard for us to get clients!

I feel i cant charge any cheaper than £25 for simple shellac+p.e.p as it would not benefit me in anyway as i would make pennies other wise! I charge £7 more to re-shellac as well. These are my time and products so i do not think i coudl include the re-shellac in the £25 price.
... sorry to go off point a bit .. x

It took me an hour first time but it now takes me 45mins thats with me chatting away etc lol!! :D I hope to get down to 30mins then thats £50 an hour!! :D
good luck with getting your speeds up and making lots of money from shellac :D!! x

I guess it depends on where you are and the type of salon you are.

The price guidelines from S2 were broke down into 3 types of salons. Standard, Premium and Destination Spa. I'm guessing Pampered Beauty is in a destination spa in London. If people are paying it, why change?
