Hi Geeks, just wondered if any of you use images of celebs wearing Minx to promote your service? Is it allowed? Having done a search online for minx nails I have found various sites showing photos of celebs wearing them, with just an acknowledgment underneath the image.....is this okay to do?

I'm just starting out so don't have any images of Minx being worn, so if it is okay to do this it would serve 2 purposes for me, 1, show the designs being worn(they look so much better) and 2, promote it as the latest celeb 'must have'.

I don't have a website as yet, just a facebook page, so would be using them on there and perhaps in an album to show to potential clients at an upcoming pamper eve.

Any advice/opinions most welcome.

Thanks, Lou x

It's best to assume all photos are copyrighted. If you can't find the owner of that photo and either gain permission and/or pay then don't take the risk.

I added a link to a Youtube video, to give people an idea what it's all about and you can get some logos and piccys from Sweat Squared if you ask:)

Sorry couldnt help it.
Always get correct permission to use images as they are normally subject to copyright. You need to protect yourself in the long run.

Be VERY careful! Many images of celebs will be owned by big corporations like Getty or Corbis. These companies are known to use an Israeli company called PicScout to trawl the Web looking for unlicensed use of their images. If they find an unlicensed image on your web site, they will then get a solicitor to send you a threatening letter demanding payment of hundreds of pounds for use of the image(s). It's happened to at least a couple of geeks on here in the last month or so.

My advice if you have such images of celebs etc on your web site without permission is to remove the images PRONTO and hope that the copyright police haven't already paid your site a visit!

since minx was launched over in ths country i have actually become friends with a lady called janice who works for them doing their PR. she regularly sends me emails and pictures of celebs wearing the minx...also a number of links.
I asked her this very question about using the pcs and she told me that unfortunately could not use them as most of them were protected by copyright.
However what she did say which was useful was that those websites wear certain celebs have been showing them off ie twitter you could use them as they have been posted on a public domain website....this is only whyat was not and do not know if it is 100% correct but may be worth looking into

I guess what might be safer is to try something like Wikimedia Commons, Wikimedia Commons - to see if there are any public domain images of celebs wearing Minx, e.g. taken by amateur photographers - and not owned by big corporations who use underhand techniques to extort huge amounts of money out of people who inadvertently (and often entirely innocently) breach their copyright.

The pictures I had seen were actually on an online blog. Some of these pictures were celebs Twitter images. Minx nails has a fanpage on facebook and had linked to this blog and thanked the blogger!!

I'm not going to post any images apart from my own, to be on the safe side. I've instead added some of the links which are on the minx nails fanpage, facebook automatically puts a thumbnail beside the link, therefore it shows one of the pictures from the actual link without me actually uploading anything.

Thanks evryone for the advice x

I use photos of celebs wearing minx on my website as most people don't really know what they are and I'm promoting them as the latest! craze. You can buy these images from varies websites for a couple of pound and then you're totally covered. (Once you make it clear that you haven't done Beyonce's nails yourself!!!) It's eyecatching and and is a good way of showing options when you are still building your minx portfolio.

That would be an ideal situation if you could buy licensed celeb photo pictures cheaply from some of the stock photo sites for use on your own website.

Please could you let us know which websites you've found these pictures on - could be very useful for future reference if they're a legit source of images...

I dont even know where to start searching for them......Are there well known webbys with these pics on???

I can only find an american one....

what about the press releases that you get with the minx kit. These show Beyonce and Christina Aguileara. Could you use these?
