Hi I went on a brazilian waxing course this week and they used 2 waxing spatulas - one to apply wax to the client and one to dribble wax onto the spatula used for the client. I found after a while that I became confused which one was which! I thought you just used a clean spatula each dip - could this method cause contamination? Is using 2 OK - what do you geeks think?:)

A clean spatula each dip is the preferred method now for all waxing, within H&S regs, but does seem slightly wasteful and expensive, so the dribble method is suggested as a hygenic alternative.

You do however need to remember which is your dribble spatula and which is your application spatula. If you get confused , yes this is where theoretically you could have cross contamination issues.

This thread here is an interesting read on the whole issue...with some very good arguments for each side of the discussion.

The way I see it is that even if you used say 20 spatula's for a Braz, that's only 20p so not worth the bother or dribbling wax and all that stuff. xxx

Yes I think so too - much better to be safe and use a clean spatula each time especially for intimate waxing. Thanks:)

can you not get colour-co-ordinated spatulas? Or what about marking the ends with a pen, eg D for dribbler and A for applicator?

I had to throw this in here.

So, I was reading up last night in here and read this waxing post. Anyways, I always just used a new spatula. WELL...I tried the drizzling onto another stick today LOL - I suck at it! I made Such a mess ha ha....it was horrible - never doing that again!

Hi It does create a mess!! I think I only got a couple of goes out of it before it became really messy. I am also not entirely convinced that the wax dripping back into the pot is not contaminated from the spatula used on the body, however the lady who ran the course said it was a perfectly acceptable way of doing things. I am seriously thinking of going into sugaring where you just throw the ball of sugar away when used - no issues for clients ot faffing about with spatulas!!

I'm with Kim, as long as you charge an appropriate price for intimate waxing don't double dip and don't drizzle - that must take soo long. If you work out how much that extra time is costing you then just using a new spatula each time is probably cheaper - they aren't exactly expensive.
