My daughter had a school project to do last week for tommorow,
We went out I spend about £15 on paints and stuff for her :irked:
We were making paper mache lunch box and contents....
anyway come today and the 3rd layer of paint is just not covering the items at ALL....

So we are resorting to plan B...only problem is we dont have one !!!!!

What can we do in ONE night....
It has to be in tomorrow morning,

It's for RE and it just has to be her creation.....anything that she creates...
One of her mates has made a bubble wrap dress.....

Please help. we are off out now for a couple of hours to a friends for tea.
Then we need to get cracking as soon as we get back ....

What sort of paint are you using? What did you make the papier mache with incidentally - was it just newspaper, water and wallpaper paste? Am guessing that the surface of the papier mache may be a bit too smooth or shiny for the paint to adhere properly - or that the water in the paint is causing the top layer of the papier mache to become a bit liquid?

Am just thinking - would something like a layer of cheap white matt emulsion paint help to seal the papier mache, so that the other paint would have a better surface to adhere to???

Hi Ruth hun,
We used a flour and water mixture we read on the net somewhere,
I have a MASSIVE tub of magnolia emulsion (who doesn't lol)
Might give that a go...oh no mind you we have already painted it all with the colours now, so the emulsion wouldnt cover that ...

It wouldnt matter if it doesnt cover it, as you'll be painting over the emulsion anyway, and you can just make sure you do the same colours over the same areas.

Another thing to try is if you have PVA glue, you know that white gloopy school glue? Mix it with some of the paint (just try a little bit first to see if it works). It should make the paint adhere better to the paper.

Best of luck! x

If all else fails try salt dough crafting, you make the dough up, shape and bake. I used to do it many moons ago when I was a Girl Guide.

You could try a black refuse bag (or green, if you have them for garden refuse) and create an outfit eg. dress.

You could use any bits of old ribbon, even paper ribbon like the stuff you use to wrap up Christmas pressies to accessorize it or use old scratch or unwanted CD's to add sparkle ie. like sequinse (? spelling). You could really go to town and perhaps create pleats and frills and just staple together.

How fantastic is that website? It's brill! Thanks for posting that.

My pleasure. As I said, it saved my friends life with her children during the summer holidays!

I can see you sitting down making the chinese lanterns tonight Mrs Clooney!! lol xx

Thanks guys,
She is going to explain to her teacher it didnt work as planned, and ask for more time,.....
We also have a little something else in mind,

The main problem was it had to be her creation, so she didnt want to do something too obvious, as it would be known she hadn't created it, but kind of copied it iykwim...

God high school is sooooo hard....

I am normally good with crafty things like this,
we have a huge box of bits and bobs, and tonnes of books from the library, but EVERYTHING we suggested to her was no good
(god damn it, and still over a year before she is a teenager )

I will take a look at the links though thankyou xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wow, that seems quite involved for RE of all things! Hope it all works out anyway :)

I know isn't it !
RE was the most boring lesson of all when I was in school , apparently this teacher is quite "cool"
Mind you most of them sound cool, Her maths teacher is younger than me !!!!!!!!
Shocking lol...
Her form tutor had the coolest nails on when we went for the open evening...dead long purple glitter tips but they were well done, so looked really nice

I'm glad its like that though, makes high school so much more enjoyable for the kids
