I danced in the morning when the world was begun
I danced in the Moon & the Stars & the Sun
I came down from Heaven & I danced on Earth
At Bethlehem I had my birth:
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
(...lead you all in the Dance, said He!)

I danced for the scribe & the pharisee
But they would not dance & they wouldn't follow me
I danced for fishermen, for James & John
They came with me & the Dance went on:
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
(...lead you all in the Dance, said He!)

I danced on the Sabbath & I cured the lame
The holy people said it was a shame!
They whipped & they stripped & they hung me high
And they left me there on a cross to die!
Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
(...lead you all in the Dance, said He!)

I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black
It's hard to dance with the devil on your back
They buried my body & they thought I'd gone
But I am the Dance & I still go on!

Dance then, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He!
(...lead you all in the Dance, said He!)

They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the Life that'll never, never die!
I'll live in you if you'll live in Me -
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He!

how can a song so cheerful sing:They whipped & they stripped & they hung me high
And they left me there on a cross to die!

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!

2. Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

3. Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where's thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!

4. Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

5. Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

6. King of glory, soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing, and thus to love, Alleluia!

I didnt go to a school that was religous and there wasnt a school hymn that i can remember. But a group of us walked around singing "Brick in the wall"by Pink Floyd!Does that count as a hymn  .

We dont need no education
We dont need no thought control

I wont go on as im sure everyone has heard the song before.

Got to be Lord of the Dance,

I had forgotten it and am now sat singing it to myself.:o

Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk in a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well
So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
No, I mustn't forget.

Clouds that look like familiar faces
And winter's moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the milkman sings.

Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes go comfy though they're worn out and they're battered
And the taste of apple pie.

Scent of gardens when the rain's been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that's been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.
***Have you heard the raindrops drumming on the rooftops?
Have you heard the raindrops dripping on the ground?
Have you heard the raindrops splashing in the streams
And running to the rivers all around?

There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life.

There's a busy workman digging in the desert,
Digging with a spade that flashes in the sun:
Soon there will be water rising in the wellshaft,
Spilling from the bucket as it comes.

There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life.

Nobody can live who hasn't any water,
When the land is dry then nothing much grows;
Jesus gives us life if we drink the living water,
Sing it so that everybody knows.

There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life;
There's water, water of life, Jesus gives us the water of life.

this is mine:

colours of day
dawn into the mind
the sun has come up
the night is behind
go down in the city
into the street
and lets give our message to the people we meet

chorus
so light up a fire
and let the flame burn
open your heart
let Jesus return
take seeds of our spirit
let the fruit grow
tell the people of Jesus let his love show

Go throught the park on into the town
the sun still shines on it neve goes down
the light of the world is risen againthe people of darkness are needing a friend

chorus

open your eyes look into the sky
the darkness has come the sun came to die
the evening draws on the sun disappears
but Jesus is living and his Spirit is near

chorus

For all of you who don't know already I'am a born again believer in Jesus Christ and totally sold out to him

I don't know why but I love this song
IF I WERE A BUTTERFLY

IF I WERE A BUTTERLFLY
I'D THANK YOU LORD FOR GIVING ME WINGS
AND I I WERE A ROBIN IN A TREE
I'D THANK YOU LORD THAT I COULD SING
AND IF I WERE A WIGGLY WORM
I'D WIGGLE MY TAIL AND I'D GIGGLE WITH GLEE

BUT I JUST THANK YOU FATHER FOR MAKING ME ME
BECAUSE YOU GAVE ME A HEART AND YOU GAVE ME A SMILE
YOU GAVE ME JESUS
AND YOU MADE ME YOUR CHILD
AND I JUST THANK YOU FATHER FOR MAKING ME ME!!!!

This is one my daughter sings at school mass.

Ah Girls I have a warm feeling in my heart and I'm singing all the great songs from my primary days. I grew up a Roman Catholic, went to Catholic schools, moved to a Catholic country but I'm more a follower or Judaism - well Kabbalah. It doesnt matter what you sing about it just makes you happy doesnt it?!

My fave was autumn days, used to love singing this in assembly, cos everyone sang it so loud cos they loved it.

The one I hated was the the lords prayer, this took absolutely ages to sing cos as after each line you then had to sing hallowed be thy name or something along those lines. i allways remember when the teacher said we were to sing this song the whole school, let out a huge groan and grumbled, making me feel tired thinking about this one.

But they do say that school days are the best days of your life!

Someone find me a 'Songs Of Praise' book QUICK. I love flicking through it while at a ceremony in church cos I see loads of songs/hymns I love. My sister & I race to find ones we might have forgotten & sing a few lines.

Cross over the road my friend
Ask the Lord his strength to lend
His compassion has no end
Cross over the road

Rejoice, Rejoice
And again I say Rejoice
Rejoice, Rejoice
Rejoice in the Lord always

Shalom My Friend

My Mum had Lord of the Dance at her wedding & had 2 of the grooviest bridesmaids you've ever seen 'rockin in the pews' ;)

Just remembered another 'God is Love'

OK off to an online library to see if I can't order me a copy. If you have one for sale let me know I'M SERIOUS.

My favorite is "His Eye Is On The Sparrow"

Just beautiful and comforting, how good to know that God is always watching, no matter what goes on, even when life shakes, rattles and rolls us, we shall never perish because his eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me...

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
Why should I feel discouraged? Why should the shadows come? Why should my heart feel lonely, longing for heaven and home? When Jesus is my potion a constant friend is he, his eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me.

Chorus
...and I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I am free, his eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me (repeat)

I love "How Great Thou Art" as well, that song pops into my head whenever I see a picture of a beautiful sunrise or the Grand Canyon...

My favourite one was 'if I were a butterfly...'

If I were a butterfly,
I'd thank you god for giving me wings
and if I were a fishy in the sea
I'd wiggle my tail and I'd giggle with glee
but I just thank you father for making me, me...

or something like that. Seriously, it is a hymn, it's in the music book that's in our chapel (I played the organ sometimes  )

I can remember singing this one - still a favourite of mine although I am not a church goer.

Not sure how this'll go down... but what did ya think of billy connelly's version?!

on a heeeyeugh... far awaaayyyyy

This is not a religious one but one I remember when I was about 5!

(Ages ago!)

At half past three
We go home to tea
or may be at quarter to four

And ten hundred feet go
running up the street
and in at their own front door

And it's rough and tumble
Rattle and noise
Mothers and Fathers
Girls and Boys
Baby in the carry cot
Cat by the stove
A little bit of quarreling
But lots more love!
AAHH!
