yourself/website etc to gain new clients?

Thanks

Hi
I only set up in September and I have done a number of different things. I paid over £300 for an ad in yellow pages and So far I have had Noone and it came on in November in our area so won't be doing that next year will just stick with the free ad they done. I did a free business focus in local paper and picked up a few people, local post offices and hairdresses. I advertise in the local magazine that goes to every house in our area and I thats been my best advertisement. I did a leaflet drop and that was hit and miss. I pop business cards whereever I can put them.
The other thing I have found is never pay the asking price, set a price in mind and stick to it.

You can put a free line on yell.com pretty much instantly I think. If you want a hyperlink to your website then you have to pay. I agree with Kezza about Yellow Pages (book) though... I think it's a bit out of date as most people look on the net instead.

Thanks for your quick replies, I have done some of the free ones.
Yell.com
Facebook
Netmums
Gumtree
I need to get more word of mouth which I guess will grow with time :)

How about loyalty cards to encourage clients to return? And some sort of recommend a friend incentive scheme.

I do all my advertising on the net, not necessarily out of choice its just happned that way. I get enough business from there so no need to advertise elsewhere.
Look for all the free advertising sites as you have listed already-but there are loads more.
Good luck.
Oh and word-of-mouth is a big one-impress one person and they will recommend you to all their family and friends.

Business networking brings me the bulk of my business. Of my takings today £210 of it came from it, so it's well worthwhile.
I mainly do ladies networking like Athena, Ladies Who Latte, Coffee and Connect because most of what I offer is for women.
I can't praise it highly enough!

thanks for the idea, just registered on netmums, didnt know the exsisted!
use all the others and i find that they really work!

Why not use the most powerfull search and use google adwords program to target the keywords you want and drive traffic and sales that way.

Everywhere!

I'm on all the free local directories, google adwords will be put in place shortly, facebook, twitter, local websites, leafleting, networking.... There's no end to what I'll do! LOL

Unfortunately I find it takes an amazing amount of time to keep up with it all, but it seems to be working. I haven't even opened yet (my salon officially opens on the 2nd November) and I'm already taking bookings and my phone is already ringing 10+ times a day....

Lynne Baker (see a couple of posts above) is obviously too modest to mention a terrific thread she started. It's all about networking and promoting your business. It has loads of ideas and is well worth a look.

Hi,

I only started working mobile at the beginning of September and advertise on Yell.com, Gumtree, Mums Net, Party Pop, Viva Street, Hotfrog, Thomson Local and Free Index. I've also got a website and a Facebook Page.
Facebook is probably my most successful form of advertising at the moment.

Yesterday morning I had 120 'fans' on my Facebook page, and now I have 186!!!! I put a competition for a free Spray Tan on at 7am yesterday and I'm amazed at the response. I've even had 2 bookings for acrylic nails for next week which I'm really chuffed about!!

When I first set up my Facebook business page, they gave me £30 worth of credit to be used for Facebook adverts, which is another good way of promoting yourself!

HTH
