Just wondering why when you wax eyebrows they always hurt more on the left eyebrow and seem to grow more? Strange I know but thought I'd ask the question!!:?:

cant say I've noticed - is this how it feels when you do it on yourself or is this what the clients say?

Its what some clients say, it was just bugging me!!

Pain thresh holds vary so much from person to person, its perfectly normal to find one side hurts more than the other,or that one side is more hairy than the other. It wouldn't be the left side only,it can be either side that this is noticed.
Hair grows in different stages and its quite possible that you or your clients have more follicles on one side than the other.HTH

Nearly all my clients have said that the left side hurts more than the right. I have no idea why this is unfortunately but you're not alone. xx

It may be the angle that you are removing the hairs in.

Being left handed I have to stand in a different place when doing the right hand side eye brow. Clients have never commented though.

If you stand in a different place/angle then that may be what is causing it!

Ive never thought about that, I will change position and see if it makes any difference, thanks

if it is on yourself, maybe it could be the amount of pressure that you put on your skin ,as you are pulling it.you need to have a tight pull on the skin, and cant always get the same amount of pull on the skin thatyoucan do if you are working on someone else... I hope this makes sense....hth

When I do permanent makeup the left side is always waaay more sensitive than the right. When I was training one of the models was into holistic therapies and she said it was something to with the meridian line, or zone, or something like that (can you tell i don't do holistics) which is an energy line through your heart. I'm sure there is someone who is far more knowledgeable than me about this, but I thought it sounded convincing!

I have been waxing for years now and rarely had anyone say that the left side hurts more than the right. It can be either side, not just the left, imo, same goes with bikini waxing or legs, dosn't seem to be left side only though.

Sometimes the left side will hurt, sometimes the right side will hurt, its no set side.Well imo anyway.

I would suggest that it could be down to waxing technique if one side always hurt more than the other with eyebrow waxing. No offence intended

That sounds like a convincing explanation! Thanks for that

Is it because of your heart pumping that way round the body? may explain why there is more body hair in general on the left side of the body than the right?

when I was training my tutor told me that where the waxing begins the brain adjusts to the pain on one side making it bearable when you wax the other side it's a shock to the brain and the pain receptors are more sensitive so it hurts more!!!
if you think about it it is unusual to receive pain first on one side then the other
don't know if it's true but it sounded convincing at the time

I've noticed this too. According to one client of mine who is a biologist (I think), it has something to do with the way the different hemispheres of the brain process sensation. Don't know how true that is, but it's another theory to kick around!

When you pad up for faradism you can't often do split padding off of one lead because you get one side that will move and the other wont so most people have one side of their bodies that conduct electricity better than the other...Not that thats got much to do with eyebrows:)

I sneeze when I have the LHS done. Does that mean anything?

I've heard of this too... aparently it's something to do with different sides of the brain doing different jobs or something like that. Apparently its usually the opposite side to your handed Eg. if your right handed it hurts more on the left side and vice versa!! Weird!!!!

My housemate is an anaesthetics specialist so I just picked his brain to see what he thought about it all, and that's basically what he said too - he used lots of big words, but in essence he suggested that a person's less dominant side is more likely to "notice" pain (as you said Emma, if you are right handed than your less dominant side is the left side).

He wants me to point out that this is just a theory, however. It's all quite fascinating how the brain works, I must have been asleep during that bit in biology lessons! :D

Hmm the theory doesn't work for me then because I'm left handed.
