I see what you're all saying about not rejecting the clients and educating them etc. But I just can't put myself through feeling like that again! I know I sound like a bit of a drama queen, but I was so close to heaving and just telling her I couldn't do it any longer. It was awful for everyone else coming and going through the salon too.

Trust me, I am educating clients. And they are shocked at what damage is being done and booking in with me, but lets face it.... Unless they are told otherwise (by people like us), they think it's the norm.

How can you also justify charging more for someone spending 3 hours doing an infill on slightly lifted nails? Yes I could charge the same price, and I know I would have a client for life, but I think I'll stick to asking them to have them removed where they had them done originally and then coming to me to sort out the problem.

And the reality is that they keep going back for a so called rebalance, and they just prise off the enhancement with a tip. That damage is going to be done anyway!

hi, sorry to sound dumb but what is nss, and why is there problems with the smell can someone please explain it all.I'm new to the buisness so dont know all the terminology (thinks thats spelled rigth)

thanks ang xx

this post must have jinxed me!!
as my 6pm client tonight was booked in for infills, but was not a regular of mine, in fact shes never been to the salon before,
a young lad had booked her in without knowing what was what, so anyways i was dreading her turn up, as i thought, "well ok, she might have a decent set on and ill be out of here by 7,"
"or she could have nss nails on and ill be here forever, well i thought i wont be, as shes been quoted 25 quid for infills"

to cut a long story short, i have never seen such badly applied nails in my life,
they werent mma, but had all the other hallmarks, of a nss

when i saw her nail bed nearly start to spurt blood out of it after two swipes of my file,
i though no way hose!!!
not on my shift

asked her to go back to where she had them done, get them removed/redone or whatever and ask for your money back as these had been on for 8 days and where lifting badly, and her nails were soo sore, i also said that maybe she should ask for the insurance details of the salon, to make a claim against them for the damage,
she seemed confused, as i said if the girl is trained she will have insurance
but she says the girl isnt trained because she used to answer the phone and when i asked her when she finished her training, she said im not trained i just copied the girl from before,
and how much had all this cost this lady at this salon???

45 quid

45 quid!! can you believe it??????????

I

How can you also justify charging more for someone spending 3 hours doing an infill on slightly lifted nails?

How can a specialist justify charging more than a normal doctor?
Get my drift ?

YOU ARE MORE WORTHY AND YOU ARE MORE EDUCATED

The problem I have with sending people back to the NSS for removal is that certainly, for the ones I know, removal is pining off the tip with another tip and using the efile down tot he natural nail to take away all the rest, usually including nail...damaging it even more.

How can I as a professional advocate sending someone away elsewhere to have their nails damaged even more!

Therefore I explain to the them that I will help them look after their nails whilst the old 'bad' stuff grows out. I shorten slightly, buff on slightly...more to remove the shine and overlay in a thin coating of gel, POW if they want it, and advocate at least fortnightly manicures with lashings of cuticle oil in between. The gel replaces the old product on new growth, then once the old stuff is at the FE I shorten and sculpt a nice new thin set.

I flatly refuse to kill myself filing it all down....the dam stuff is so solid it doesn't need any more strength anyway, but as the apex moves along I just build in a little more strength with the gel.

My Sister has always used a NSS 'salon' (term used loosely) and i have to admit to using them myself in the past... before i educated myself via this forum. She has used them for the last 4 years!! She never has them taken off just has her infills done. I dread to think what her actual nails look like underneath. This 'Salon' is run by people who wear the masks/gloves etc so i assume they use MMA.

My question is, How can i re-educate her and get her to stop using them. I have tried telling her but she just say's well i;ve not had any problems in the last 4 years. She also likes the quickness of it, she's in and out within half hour!!

My problem is i am not trained, only in manicures, so she just thinks i don;t know what i'm talking about. I have even tried booking her into a very good salon to have a new set redone....she didn't go!!

I'm running out of ideas but i really don;t want her to do any more damage then she already has.

If you do a search on MMA on here, there is a post written by The Geek. There's a lot of information in there that you can perhaps print off and give to her?

Also, google it. I did the other night. I believe it can be used in brain surgery - for repairing your skull! Nowhere in official terms is it deemed suitable for the use of applying nail enhancements. Thats EMA.

Oh Nailzoo, I do know completely what you mean. And believe you me I educated this one woman in particular. But sat in my chair for 3hours for just an infill was not putting a smile on her face. I know I'm more educated than her, I know I'm the specialist, but because her nails were lifting I had to file down. I couldn't leave them and just buff slightly and then reapply some fresh product. It would have looked awful! It was a nightmare. The stuff almost smelt like it was burning when I filed it off. It was just so uncomfortable for all involved.

The question is, would you charge MORE for infilling them? I doubt very much they'll pay more for a longer infill when they can go back and get them taken off with a quick lever of a tip!

Lyndsay - I know what you mean too. As I said above, because it was lifting I had to file down more. I WISH I could have just done a little top up. I don't want to have to send people back. It seems the NSS aren't doing to well if they're giving people lifting! I thought one of their so called 'strengths' was that they stayed on!!

My only experience so far of working on nss nails is removals. My own daughter, who lives and works away, goes to them and openly admitted when I'd removed them that they were in awful condition. The latest set she'd had done on holiday in Australia and they were the worst applied set I've ever seen. The 'Tech' should have been paying my daughter to put up with the wretched things! I have explained it all to her and yet she still goes to these places on the basis that they're quick and cheap. :irked:

They took a long time to file and soak off and although I didn't see rings of fire exactly, they almost looked deformed with peculiar lumps and ridges she never used to have. I have also removed another nss set for a friend and they looked exactly the same, quite unlike those of anyone who doesn't attend these places. Has anyone else noticed this?

Hi I'm not a nail tech (I only do mani/pedi) but I am interested in all this and I was just wondering what constituted NSS? And is MMA the really think stuff you have put on over your real nails? I'm sorry if this is such basic stuff your average half trained monkey would know it but I'm blonde - what can I say!
