hi ,,

I wonder if I could get some help/advice. I joined here last year and i was going to do a Nail course but things happened and I did not get to do it, however I bought a nail trainer and began to practice.

I have only ever done my own nails and as they say practice makes perfect.

The last set that I did lasted for 5 weeks and even if I do say so they looked quite nice as I now know a bit more then before and know about, leaving a little space when applying the acrylic, how to get the right consistsity of the mix and how important prep is..

The thing I need help with is cutical oil.. I have some but not to sure when to use it. Is it when I put the acylic on, or when I completely finish doing my nails.

The other thing, normally I just ping the nails enhacemnts off and this time i soaked them off with remover,
This worked ok because I have smooth nail beds. The problen is that i helped the acrylic off when it had become soft and lifted a bit, now under my natural nail is bruised and sore.
Does anyone know how long this will last for and howlong before can put new nails back on.

I would also just like to say that reading some of the posts, I have gotten a lot of infomation that I have found very useful.. So thank you every one who has taken the time to help

 this is a joke right?

I would get yourself a nail course hun.....you should not be pinging your nails off.....your damaging them, you should not be helping the acrylic off as this is damaging your natural nail aswell....

Your natural nails have loads of layers , but if you take of the acrylic/gel.....then your natural nails will be thin and weak.......

My advice would be get yourself a course and then you will see when to apply oil and what your doing to your nails and why its wrong to take the enhancements off.......sorry if that is harsh.......we are here to help but you need to know alot more about nails than you do and if your serious about doing nails, get the training xxxxxxxxx:hug:

OMG...i think you really need to do a course......are you doing these on paying clients or jst friends and family???
There are lots on here that have paid ALOT of money for their training..... I dont mean to be rude.
xx

maybe not so helpful then

hi
have to agree with the rest of the girls on this one. there is no way you should be doing nails on clients with no training. not being rude but u often hear people sayin how havin gel or l&p ruined their nails when really its untrained hands that do all the damage. you should really look into gettin some proper training, im sure the nails u do are lovley so just think how much nicer they could be with a bit of expert training
good luck

i have only MY OWN nails.. as i stated,, but as the courses are quite expensive,, i have to wait until i have the money to pay for it. i would never dream of charging people money as i am not properly trained...

Your nails are made up of layers of compacted dead skin cells ( keratin)
Acrylic/gel is designed to stick to the keratin in your nails , so when you " ping" your nails off , you are inevitably taking some of the top layers of your nail with it ,which is why they are now damaged and sore.

This is why so many people say "acrylics" ruin their nails ,when infact thats not the case ,L&P, gel, fibreglass WILL NOT cause any damage on its own, its either the person applying them or the wearer of the enhancements that causes the damgage,

When you soak enhancements off PROPERLY ( without "helping" them !) ,NO damage is done to the natural nail.

If you had done any training you would know all this , my advice would be the same as the others,
If you are seriously interested in doing nails then please go and do a proper course before you do yourself or anyone else any more damage.
You will then also know how and when to use cuticle oil.

Hope you now understand why youve caused so much damage to your nails and i would suggest to you not to reapply anyform of enhancement and go see a PROFESSIONAL nail technician or let the damage grow out ,which can take up tp 6 months .

Hello hun,

I would go and see a profesional just to get a look at your nails but in the mean time you can still use cuticle oil to rub into your nails to help keep them conditioned as they recover. When enhancements are applied cuticle oil goes on after the nails are fully applied. Did you ever have your naild done before you started to practice on a trainer hand and your own nails or did you just follow some kind of instruction leaflet from a kit. Just curious how you came to be doing this. I decided to train when I had been having my own nails done in a salon and it was my nail tech who talked me into it.

Training can be expensive but its well worth it and if your anything like me you'll be shocked at how many things you did that were wrong. I've admitted to doing my own nails before I trained so your not alone. Maybe you can apply for help with the costs?

Good advice from Min

If you have damaged your nails like you said, then usually it will take some time for your natural nails to grow out to the free edge - probably some where in the region of upto 6 months - depending on how fast your nail growth rate. To reapply, another set of enhancements will also depend on how badly damaged your nail plates are - you need a good foundation to build a beautiful enhancement and a weak nail plate is not one - hence why Min's advice is so important.

I'm glad to see that you have/are considering a nail course - I am sure you will really enjoy it once you are on one

Hope it all works out for you - at least once you have qualified, you will be able to advise your clients NOT to ping them off as you really do know it damages your nails!

Best of luck hun xx

omg that made cringe when i read that you ping them off !! that must really hurt !

Practise does not make perfect
PERFECT PRACTISE makes perfect,
go on a course hun and we will help you all we can, until please know that this site is for professionals who take their training and careers very seriously

I can understand that you want to practice on yourself while waiting to save for a course. But the problem is, you will damage your nails to the point you will have nothing to practice on when you need to come to do the course, as you usually end up by practicing on each other when learning.

Use your cuticle oil and rub it daily into your nails to stimulate the blood flow and encourage your nails to grow, which will help the damage grow off.

It is great to hear that you want to practise becoming a nail tech and also want to learn more about it, but you do have to be careful and need to get more training to continue.

I have been training for the last four years to do what i do and some people on here even longer, so that is why we do get a little concerned when someone is self taught. Please listen to what we are all saying, get some training, then we are all here to help you.

!!!!!!!!!!! Speechless !!!!!!!!!!!!

Book a course .............Or leave the nails until you can afford a course you could be causing yourself unknown damage x
