Hi, have no idea why ive just thought of this, and it may seem very controversial but here it is...

I was thinking of offering a service for the deceased.. I know what you may be thinking - what am I on about?! But..
Im sure there are people who do this sort of thing already but its probably just not talked about much.. But when someone has passed away their relatives may do things such as tend to their hair etc as we all want to look our best .. even after we have passed on. So I was thinking of offering a service where I could go in maybe do a file & polish with the option of nail art..?

What do you think?

How random! We were on about doing this the other day! I couldn't do it! :S but if needs must and push came to shove.....

No i couldn't i know when i have seen loved 1s of mine before the funeral i wasnt lookin to c if there mani / pedi was fresh, i no times r hard with credit crunch but seriously this is to far I think!! at a push ur services mayb required to do make up to cover skin discolouration etc!!!

But if it works for u best of luck!!

oooo very "my girl" :)

i think subtle make up would probably be more of a hit than pedicures and manicures, I would call up some funeral directors and see if they had any thoughts on it. x

I was talking to a friend about this the other day and she said when she dies she wants me to do her nails and give her a spray tan as well. I personally think it would be nice especially if the person had regular treatments and always looked after themselves. I would do it if asked by a family member to do nails etc.

I found a video on youtube that may be of interest:

YouTube - Embalming, Dressing, Casketing and Making-Up the Dead

It seems like there is specialist make up you can buy, I would contact your local undertaker and ask what they do.

I would think they probably do it themselves but may be willing to train you to help if they are very busy.

That was fab...I've always wanted to see what they did. Honestly.
My mum looked terrible when she died but the funeral guy begged me to go and see her and she did look totally at peace...they did a great job.
Now.... if I get embalmed I would like HIM on the video please:)

No smudging! I think it's a great career which gives dignity to the deceased. xxx

I think its a good idea too and if you could do it, then go for it...

When my nana passed away I really really wanted to paint her nails, and do snowman and snowflake nail art on her,
I had done it a few weeks before and she LOVED them, she showed everyone who she possibly could, made my aunty take pictures ...
She had never seen anything like it and thought I was the best thing since sliced bread lol...

I only told my sister about what I would like to do...but I bottled out of asking the rest of the family as I thought they would think it disrespectful and tasteless.... But I know me nana, and she would have LOVED it

xx

I would love to have my nails done when im passed over, theres an area in the graveyard for the party animals and im going there!

I wouldnt be able to do it.....I would never want to see an open casket again!

But i do think its a great idea, i do know that some relatives require this service for their loved ones, call the directors in your area & i think you will be suprised x

Great idea. Would you come and do mine for me in the future?
Definitely let us know if you decide to go ahead, can you imagine all the Geeks on this site who would have clients who would want it done for themselves and family? After all if they are the sort of people who come to us to make the most of themselves, them why not when they're in their coffin? I definitely would!

I actually think it's a good idea too. I know it's not for everyone, as people treat death so differently.

when my mum died, I wanted everything just so perfect for her, I wanted her to look lovely in that coffin, i took a photo to the funeral directors for the make up woman to do her best job, and i think they did...

So i think you should call in to various funeral directors, and explain what the services are that you can offer. Good luck XxxX

I couldn't do this myself, just the thought of it actually makes me feel funny...which is why, if you feel you could do this sort of thing, I really think you should do it. There are so few people out there who would be happy to do this job, you really will have a niche in the market, and I would have thought, very little competition!!
Obviously not everyone who dies would want this service, but if you could call all the local funeral directors etc and offer them your services to call upon should they be desired, I agree, I think you will be busier than you imagine.
Good luck!

Don't you have to use special make up???? Not for me, sorry, I know there less likely to complain but I couldnt touch there cold skin. Plus we are not into embalming here as much as the USA. They tend to have open caskets where as us brits are a tad more reserved. I suppose as the saying goes theres nothing more certain than death and taxes so you should have a steady stream of clientelle lol!

Whether or not you will be allowed to work on them in the funeral homes is another thing (as I reckon funeral homes will have a problem covering their backs with the insurance).

Try it out and see. I have heard children or adults who have died in horrific ways in america are made up before people see them to make them look human again, but then thats again an american thing I reckon.

When my Nan passed away she was 'laid out' in the Chapel of Rest, I went to see her the day before her funeral and I wish that there had been someone there who could have made her look more like she did when she was alive.

Whoever looked after her before we went to see her didn't do a very good job IMO so I think it's definitely something worth looking into as it would be appreciated by the families and friends of the deceased person.
