personally I dont see anything wrong with this.
I would say telephone city and guilds and see if seeling this way is approved just to be on the safe side.
Although, the face-to-face course is not a lot more and you get someone teaching you.
But, other than that I think its ok.

Hi, just had a look and i would really check it out before i payed any money, the course you are doing at college for nail art if its like the one at the college i go to you have to have previous qualifications to do the nail art. I would stay with your college course..xx

Sorry if this may sound insulting to some people but there are lots of good books out there which will show you how to do lots of different nail art.

How many of your clients are asking for nail art - what sort of art are they asking for? I only have one client who has any form of nail art on a regular basis.

Even at £40 how long will it take you to recoup that outlay if no one asks for it.

X off ebay, step away from your pc and go down the proper route of training if this is a course you wish to do.

BUT and i say this as i paid to do a nail art course and looking back i already new how to do the designs we was shown.....You can do any form of nail art without having to train in how to do flicks, dots, gems, striping tape etc etc as this is all you are shown really.

there are also some good dvd that you can play again and again until you get it right, also library have some good nail art books..xx

Well this may sound harsh and no doubt you'll get also sorts of PM's saying 'its OK hun do what you want to do bla bla bla...' but how anyone can even consider any type of learning purchase from eBay professional, is beyond me.

Scenario:
Client: I am looking for something a little different for my nails.. nail art perhaps?
Tek: Sure I can help you there, I did a home learn course off eBay.

I'd run a mile!!
You may say 'shut up Sam it's only nail art for crying-out-loud', You may say, 'well I wouldn't say this' or 'I wouldn't tell the client that', but the question is WHY wouldn't you?

If you had learnt your trade some place that was known and respected, you would be proud and shouting from the roof tops... 'I've just done an amazing course in Nail Art at the XYZ school' but EBay????

Come on girls! When is it going to sink in that our trade is PROFESSIONAL... why can't we act like it and do things properly rather than half assed and always on the cheap?

Why is it that we expect lawyers, doctors etc to have achieved a degree in their chosen field but in our line of work... 'Yeh I just did a 1 day course to do nails....', 'I just learnt nail art from a course I bought on eBay'...

Does anyone see where I am coming from??? :!::irked:

I believe, after many years of teaching nail art, that you can't learn how to be artistic. You either are or you are not.

If you are then it is easy to get inspiration from anywhere without doing a class. The INTERNET is full of sites with thousands of images to inspire you.

You certainly do not need a certificate to offer nail art services.

Now classes can be very useful and a great shortcut for learning different techniques! The how to's etc, but the art comes form you and if you haven't got it then you haven't got it.

Pay for a course on Ebay?? Not on your nellie.

This is interesting cause i spoke to professional beauty the other day and they said if you want to be covered for nail art you need to prove you have a certificate hmmm... (really im so fed up with insurers its gone beyond ridiculous)

That's crazy - why would you need to be insured to create a pattern or image? You could do that with nail enamel :smack:... I think I would check... maybe it is something to do with coloured L+P which may make the difference...

yes I do 100%

If someone is serious about being a nail tech then ebay is not the way to go.

I would just like to say i am totally committed to being a professional nail technician and i am dedicated and want to be the best i can. I thank all for giving me your opinions. i have been dabbling but want to learn everything there is to know and i want to do all the nail certificates i can to obtain this knowledge. Where i live there is and has never been a qualified technician and in my opinion they all need a little push to discover the benefits and fantastic things we can do with out nails!! Please any more opinions are greatly recieved, i enjoy reading all your replies.
kindest regards

So why do so many people want 'over the top' nail art units in the Occupational Standards???

I completely disagree that this is a commercial and critical part of being a nail technician.

I do agree that knowing about the safety issues are important but, like Geeg, believe no one can teach creative and artistic ability.

Unfortunately, so much of this issue is forced into the industry by people that benefit from training courses.

Nail art is a small, niche area of nail services. If a technician has the flair they will do it anyway regardless of any course. The industry just needs to support any safety issue
