So who has had the implant? And your thoughts?
Ive booked to have it a week on Monday as a few girls at work have recently had it done which made me think of it. My reasons being, not remembering having to take a pill, can take antibiotics (which i am supposed to take for my spotty skin but cant due to the pill), 3 years without thinking about contracption.
I am in a 9 year relationship, the only thing i am worried about it how my periods wil react, some people get heavy bleeding for months and months!! some get none at all.
How would you know if you were pregnant with all the iregualr bleeding?
Thanks

i had it when it first came out 9 years ago i fell pregnant on it !!!!! it was four months after it was put it ! for many people it works well but not for me :(

o dear!!!! but i guess u can get pregant on the pill too. its slightly more effective than the pill isnt it? xx

Kay had it when she went to uni and it played havoc with her hormone levels.
Her periods stopped and she never felt confident with it.
But the other 6 girls in her house also had it and had no problems at all.

Well i fell pregnant on that also so maybe i dont get on with any ha ah

hi i got pregnant on pill 3 times so had implant. it felt sore for 2months,itched like mad n bled on off for a month. That was 8month ago. i dont have periods and havent fallen pregnant! i like it now

I had the inplanon (inplant) 8 weeks after having my son (he's now 3) The best thing was it stopped my periods, my period pain almost stopped, I would still get a little twinge now and again!
The Huge problem that I had, is that it gave me Post Natal Depression!!! This wasn't picked up untill my son was almost a year old! (I still suffer with it today) this is something they dont tell you

Apart from that its a really good form of contraception as you have no need to remember to take a pill everyday, you have it for 3 years you can get on with your life!

Hi Hun,
I haven't had it, but 2 of my friends have, both said they gained weight very quickly.
One is having hers taken out asap, (She has only had hers in 1 month) the other did stay with it for quite some time, but eventually had to have it taken out too.
I did have the pill injection, I thought that was brill, but I did gain 3 stone with it, stopped having it, dieted like mad, weight just stayed, then exactly 1 year later weight came off. But it did say on leaflet that it can be 1 - 2 years before your body is clear of the injection ...????
Good luck with whatever you choose, hope it all goes well for you.
Lotsa luv x   x

Ive had the implant in for nearly a year now and cant wait to get it out, for me it hasn't been very good at all, constant period, night mare, doctor prescribed pill to take as well to try and controll it but still no luck. I thinj it's such a personal thing that you just have to try it. It might be the best thing you ever did, but for me, it's the worst. On the plus side though it never hurt when it went it, but the specialisi says mine was put too deep and i have to have a general to get it out now. So go to a doctor you know and trust is my advice!! X x o

I was thinking about getting it as a few girls on my course had it. They said they craved junk food so badly that one of them had put on nearly 3 stone in 2 months. The other girl wasnt doing anything different (diet wise) and she really filled out.
So I decided against it.

I've thought about having it, I'm back on the pill but it stops my periods completely, I have PCOS so it always plays havoc with me, took 2 1/2 years for my periods to come back the last time I came off the pill , so dont think I will go for an implant.

Ive had it for over 1 year now and had no probs. Ive not put weight on because of this (was eating all the crap) and have not turned into a balloon or anything lol But my friend did gain a stone or 2. I think as everyone said its just how it works with you and if its not for you, it can be taken out. The gr8 thing is, no periods for me ! lol

I had Norplant when it was first licensed in the UK in about 1993 and it was horrid. When all said and done it's still a hormonal contraception so those people who have reacted adversely to the pill, injection, etc are still likely to react.
It buggered up my periods and my already labile mood so I had it removed after a year or so.
I have a coil now - just a regular one, not the Mirena one, so there's no hormonal interference. It's absolutely fine, no pain on insertion, and little or no effect on my periods.

Hi, I know you are asking about implants , but.....I used to have terribly heavy cycles and was very anaemic so the Gynea suggested a mirena ,
now I have no monthly things at all , I am free from cramps and everyhthing and I havent looked back , I wish I had had it done years ago

Ps. my sisters Daughter had the implant and was like a cat on hot coals with her moods

I've had 2 implants and think they are fantastic!
I had my first one in for just over a year but then we decided to try for another baby so I had it taken out...I got pregnant after only 2 weeks!! (no shock really because with my first pregnancy I fell pregnant 4 weeks after coming off the pill...i guess we're a fertile pair!!) I then had my second implant put in a few weeks after my baby was born so i'm nearly 18 months in and have had no problems with it at all. No weight gain, no moods, no periods....I am a happy bunny! When it runs out i'll be getting another put in unless hubby plucks up the courage to have the snip!!!!!

xx

I had Norplant when it was first licensed in the UK in about 1993 and it was horrid.

My girlfriend's daughter had Norplant when she was in her early 20's. Unfortunately, that caused her to have a massive stroke. She's OK now, thank God, but it was a long road to recovery.

Best of luck to you! :)

i dont know about implants, for me the coil is great. it doesnt affect my moods, i have no periods, pain free to have it put in and only took minutes. i feel very confidant with the coil which i wasnt with the pill as i fell pregnant!
Hope the implant goes well x

o dear im scared now! i picked the perscription up today had a sneaky look at the device to put it in- its HUGE!!! :(
im scared of the putting weight on thing now too but again, the pill is supposed to make u do that isnt it? i didnt really put weight on with the pill. Its more about controlling the cravings for food ive been told?
O well this time next week it'll be in!! unless i cancel lol

Doesnt hurt one bit when they put it in, and i am a MASSIVE MASSIVE WIMP! X x

I had Norplant (1st one) then Implanol (think) My moods were soooo bad & i bled all year!!! But didnt get pregnant & my friend had it at the same time & she was the opposite so i think everyone is different & maybe its worth giving it a try, you can always have it removed, p.s i made hub get the snip :lol::lol: Good Luck x
