just wanted to thank you so much for this. Have suffered with 'hurty back' since Dexter (hmmm so 6 years) and I shall read with interest!

Sounds like you got sciatica.... which is right pain in the bum....excercise is the way to go.... stretching your calf muscles.... laying on the floor with feet up against the wall and then walking up and down the wall, pressing your feet flat against it..... my chiro... bone cracking doc told me to do this and since I have been doing it no more pain...I suffered for 2 years with this..another one is, laying on your back flat on the floor , heels at your bum and twisting your lower half of the body from side to side , keeping you knees together and make them touch the floor.... its the stretching, that will free the nerve.....

Just a thought

I suffer with sciatica, and have done for the last 22 years, unfortunately these exercises didnt help me at all, and if anything made things worse. i think this sort of thing only helps some and not all. ive even been to a physio and chiropractor, and even those didnt help - im just a hopeless case lol - was told the only other option was an operation, but the odds wernt good, got told that i could end up parylised from the waist down - not good enough odds for me

For me a chiropractor has been the answer; I suffered for about two years with a very painful mid back and sore neck I couldn't twist on one side. Yes it's £32 a throw BUT now the pain is almost non existant - I feel like a new person and can do so much more. And I am less tired. The back can give you problems in other part of your body with you knowing it. If you can get help from the chiropractors then I'd say go for it Hths' xx

Its so important to look after your back, everyone does naughty things which strain it many times a day. Its not until you develop a problem that you realise how debilitating it can be. I had seriously slipped disc which I had corrected with surgery last October, its still not right and I've had to give give up mobile work. Alot of it was down to my weight and pregnancy but if I'd of know how bad it was going to get I'd of taken extra measures.

I suffer with this also.....and God the PAIN!!!!!!!!! My weight plays a big factor in mine, but that soon shall be no more!!!

I have had a back problem for the last 30 years, had surgery in 1980, and have now been left with a condition called Arachnoiditis.........no it's nowt to do with spiders:smack: LOL!! I am just getting over a disc prolapse at the moment, and once I was "back on my feet" I decided to do something about strengthening the back muscles. I have been swimming and using toning tables regularly for the last 4-6 weeks and have found this very beneficial. The nerve has freed up now and I am continuing the above "therapy", as also during this time I have lost one stone in weight!!!! Yippee..:green:

Back pain is really horrid as it affects everything you do. I shall certainly look at that site too!!

oh hun I have had a problem with my back for 10 years I sneezed one day and that was it pain on and since then.
It all got alot worse last January while helping my 10 year old up stairs during a flair up she has Arthritis in her hips I must have turned wrong and ended up with a prolapse disc:eek:
I went for surgery in June last year and although it hasn't cured it it has made my 80% better but I have been told that the bottom 4 disc's in my back are badly damaged and I have been told the others might prolapse at some stage so I have to be very careful:rolleyes:
Good luck hun and take things easy
Backs are a horrid thing to go wrong as you dont realise how much things you cant do.

I found this very interesting.
I had a Spinal Fusion about 11 years ago after problems all my life.
As I grew up everyone told me I had growing pains, pulled a muscle, trying to get time off school, whatever they could think of instead of trying to find out what the problem really was. I had a fatigue fracture of L5.
But had the op and im great now. The site is very good though it actually show'd me what I'd had done.

Seems like everyone has back problems.
I've had the lower back pain for 6 1/2 yrs, and there's absolutely no cure for it, so I've been told by the doctor. We've tried everything, exercise, physio, strongest painkillers, tens machine, and nothing works. Been for a bone scan, but nothing shows up. Seen the specialist and he says, because they can't see anything, they don't know what the problem is, so there's nothing to cure or operate on. They did suggest trying to operate, but could'nt guarantee anything, and also with my other complications it would be more difficult. So I told them to leave it well alone. Now I just have to grin and bear it for the rest of my life.

Its like mine too ... Ive been back and forwards to hospitals and doctors for nearly 7 years, Ive been told that I just have to live with it ... well acctually the doctor said "well what do you want me to do about it!"

Ive had pain killers, physio, pilates & MRI scan and nothing works either ... I have been told my Lumbar spine to arched & pilates is supposed to help but when Im up since 5am with the pain and do a full days work, I can never find the energy! :irked:

Fantastic site thnks for sharing it with us. I too have had severe back pain for 18 years now following a car accident. I did all the hospitals years ago and decided that I would try and manage the pain myself but over the years it has got worse and worse.
I have no been referred back to the hospital and they have done an MRI scan which shows that L4 and L5 are absolutely shot. They are going to try with the epidural injections first but don't hold out much hope. The next step is surgery which is what I was trying to avoid all those years ago but at least this timne the children are older and we may be able to cope a little better.
