Most of the my Biosculpture clients have opted for French overlays. I recently thought I'd try out a colour on myself just to test the results myself. I went for the black (2017 I think).

I applied:

1 x coat clear
2 x coats black
1 x coat clear
- refined
1 x coat s-gel (curing for 4 minutes)

When I wiped the sticky layer after curing the s-gel, the nails went dull and kind of streaky. This happened before and I thought perhaps I hadn't buffed them smooth enough so I re-buffed them all very smooth but the same thing happened. I ended up just applying top coat but obviously this isn't ideal for us technicians.

I would really like to find out what the problem is because apart from having to use a top coat, I am really pleased with the result.

Where am I going wrong?

Why did you put another layer of clear gel on, after the colour, and what did you wipe the s-gel with ?

I put a layer of clear on because I knew I would need to refine the finish and didn't want to buff of the colour.

I removed the sticky layer with ScrubFresh which I thought a few peeps used in their Biosculpture routine without any problems.

Ok it was just my thought ,Ive never used clear on top of colour, think if I was worried about filing the colour off I would of done 3 layers, or two layers of s gel for strengh, then you could refine the first one.

Im not aware you can use scrubfresh, I thought Bio were pretty hot on using their own products.

Does the same thing happen if you remove the sticky ness with Bio polish remover ?
These are my thoughts,I am Bio trained , but I use acrylic alot more,so I dont know if anybody elses thoughts will be different who use it more but I was told to use soaley Bio products.

Thanks for your help Debbie.

Most companies are very hot on using their own products for their own systems but I had understood (perhaps wrongly) that a lot of people use Scrubfresh without detriment to the result. When I trained, I did get a dull and patchy result then too but thought that was more down to my lack of expertise and poor technique.

What you say about an additional layer of colour rather than clear does make more sense.

I too use acrylic more and hopefully other more experienced bio geeks will be able to shed some light. Thanks!

Sorry to hear you're having a few probs with your Bio application at the moment Chris. Is it just with black gel, or with any colour?

With colour application, I do one layer clear, 2 layers colour and 1 layer sealer or s-gel. I've always used Bio's Sanitiser to remove the inhibition layer, without experiencing any problems, followed by top coat.

PS: I tend to buff the initial clear layer (but then again, only if it needs it), and not the coloured layers unless absolutely essential. Buffing down the coloured layers will give a slightly duller overall finish IMO.

Thanks Karen!

My bio clients tend to go for French overlays and I thought I'd experiment with the colour on myself before I really started pushing the clients to the colour. So black is the first colour I've used and it looks fab with the top coat but I would prefer it to be finished with S-Gel and a super shiney finish.

I have never really had a great shiney finish yet but thought that was my lack of expertise.

You're welcome Chris ... there's no need for you to apply that additional clear layer after the colour. Just finish it off with either sealer for 2 mins or s-gel for 4 mins and you'll be fine. I always apply top coat regardless, for that additional high gloss shine xx

hi chris

i use brisa finishing gloss on top of all my coloured gels no matter what the brand the super shiny finish is awesome ... clients always comment how shiny they are

Hi Karren - Good to see you on board again.:)

It did cross my mind to use this but thought I'd try and resolve it with Biosculpture gels. Thanks for that as I use Brisa finishing gloss on my l&p clients.

Does this brisa finishing gloss prevent yellowing too?

I don't know if it prevents yellowing cause you don't get yellowing with Creative L&P.

I have yet to experience yellowing from Biosculpture. My French Bio clients haven't experienced it (yet!) x

hi debbie

i have never experienced yellowing of any sort so can't help babe

i use creative l&p, creative brisa, ezflow boogie night kits, akzentz colour gels, and the odd colour gels including bio that i have been given

i use brisa finishing gloss as my finishing product for all services - no problems, no yellowing just brilliant shiny long lasting finish

I'll pm you cause I don't think the mods like prices being discussed x

I would agree that Scrubfresh cannot be used with Bio. Since it contains acetone, and Bio is a soak-off, it begins to break down the product, hence you lose the shine.

Also, I find of all the clear gels, S Gel does not leave the nicest shine. I always finish with the sealer.

I have tried Brisa top gloss over Bio and it did not work well. Because it is not flexible, little hair line cracks start to appear as the Bio gel flexes but the Brisa can't flex with it. That's just been my experience.

If you cut out the Scrubfresh, you'll get a GREAT shine. Also, remember not to swipe until after you've cured the clear, as the colours are more difficult to cure and sometimes pigments comes away.

hths! Just did a pedicure with Bio colour and it looks super shiney and lush!

Thanks girls. I'll try out the Sealer finish and miss out my ScrubFresh x

Chris - my experience with S gel is that you need to use the Bio polish remover when removing the sticky layer as the sanitizer doesnt quite have the right power to do the job. I do also find that unless I am using a fairly new pot of S gel the shine and smoothness as a top coat isnt quite what I want. I wouldnt use the clear gel as a top coat - either use the s-gel or sealer gel.

However, this week I have started to use the new dual cleanser to remove the sticky and I dont know why but it seems to leave the end result shinier!

I too always use the Bio top gloss clear polish anyway to end the service which gives a fabulous shine.

Thanks Theresa! It really is for when I do my own nails that I don't want to use top coat. I will go with Sealer xx:hug:

Hi Chris,

I have used Akzentz trilite gel over my bio colours ( on myself ). This way my nails always looked shiney, even whilst working. Using the regular top coat didn't last 5 minutes on me.
