I'm a dog owner and I wouldn't dream of it.

Highly inappropriate and certainly not fair on the dog. Noise, chemicals, salons can be really busy, bustling on the go places, why would you bring a dog into that. Also as previously mentioned, allergies, fear, insurance, health and safety - the list could go on.

Is there any plus points?? It's convenient for the owner - poor dog!

Only dogs i would allow into the salon would be guidedogs im afraid. We have had a couple clients pop in with there new puppy to show us at reception but not stay for the duration of an appointment.

It would put me off going to a salon if there was a dog there, simply because of personal reasons,.... Not everyone likes dogs but in a salon it would definitely be unhygienic

No, no, no. I'm not a dog lover personally. I grew up with cats so have never been around dogs really. My little boy also has a huge fear of dogs so we are never around them. If I was to walk in to a salon or even a shop that had a dog in it, other than guide dogs I would walk straight out.

I'd know if a dog was there too just by the smell, I'm sorry but no matter how clean you are and how much you wash dogs there is always a doggy smell. It's the same with cats.

That's a Dogue de Bordeaux Thiago. If you think they're big (which they are) check out my dog below ;)

Ok, my thoughts on dogs in salons is this...based on personal experience...

Don't do it.

When I first got my dog at 10 weeks old I took him everywhere to socialise him, as all good of owners would, and of course that included my salon.

He was just a tiny little thing the size of a Yorkshire terrier at the time, but I lost a very good high spending client due to my foolishness that day. I didn't know she was terrified of dogs, even puppies, and this client used to visit twice a week for blow dries and every 4 weeks for colour and extensions.

Not everyone loves dogs or understands them, and it taught me a valuable lesson financially. ;)

I wouldn't mind if that was only hairdressing place only without beauty or other aesthetic services.

Im suprised at all theses no no no! I think it is different north of the border as I have a few English friends who can' believe you would take your dog on a night out to the pub and restaurant and then in the morning take the dog into the shop for your morning rolls. I don't think in my dogs 12 years I have lost few clients due to my dog, if clients are scared you have to make sure the dog is out of sight. I appreciate though some people do not like dogs. As I said previously my nail bar and hairdressers allow my dog in too. Dogs like company, each to their own I suppose, but the dug places here in Edinburgh are definately more you high end variety e.g in exclusive areas stockbridge and the likes, they know it brings in money. Good thread though!

I have 3 dogs and a cat and none of them are allowed in the house.
My brother in law had 3 dogs that are allowed in his house.
As soon as I walk in the door og his house all I can smell is dog and not because his house is dirty, it's not but dogs smell of dog
.
Don't try and tell me that your dog doesn't smell either , they do , you have just gotten immune to it.

Not a scent I would expect to greet me when I walk into a professional establishment.

I think it's bizarre in the extreme that it's even under consideration but to each their own.

I love my dog, and i do hate leaving him... And id love if i had my own salon to take him. But- i wouldn't unless it had an outdoor area, but he would only cry to come inside. I know so many people who are scared of dogs, and having been bitten myself i completely understand. So no, i wouldn't expect to see a dog in a salonXx

I love dog but i wouldnt have one in the salon.

I love my dog. He has been the face of my Facebook skincare campaign. He is brown and his white bits have been at the heart of my spray tan promotion, but he never has and never will be at my salon. I think it is totally inappropriate. My friend has a hair salon and takes her dog to work. Her clients go in and fuss the dog and then moan to me about her dog. Imagine if you got bitten - an insurance nightmare!!!

At the end of the day, some people will refuse to visit an amazing stylist or therapist because they have a dog in the salon.

Not one client would refuse to visit an amazing stylist or therapist because they did NOT have a dog in the salon.

If you can afford to reduce clientele for that reason, good for you xx

I briefly worked for a salon once, where the owner brought in her dog. But it was kept in the back room which was also the office that had a back door to the yard outside. Clients didnt see the dog and i think if you have to bring in a dog then this is how it should be.
