One of my clinets told me today that she had had her feet nibbled at the place in the metro centre - nobody checked her feet before they went in the tank and she had cuts on her feet, the fish nibbled away and before long they were bleeding in the tank, she told the woman and she was told to take them out and when she went passed again someone else had their feet in the same tank!

eew not for me!!

I feel sorry for the fishies, they have nothing in the tank apart from lots of fish. :|
The whole thing does not appeal to me, I must say. I do think that picture is funny though.

There is a new shop called natural pedicure opened up near me and i got a voucher for xmas :) to be honest the idea of it really does freak me out a bit and i have seriously ticklish feet, but im willing to give anything a go to be honest..then can give my feedback to anyone who asks :)

But my friend had it done and i asked her the exact same thing about putting your feet into someone elses dirty water?! They soaked her feet seperately before putting them into the fish and did a full consoltation and checked her feet for anything that may have been an infection or a problem, just as you would for a normal pedicure :)

Im pretty confident about it now, although worried its gonna tickle like crazy :/ but the hygiene i do trust, and if anything i notice doesnt look right, then i wont be risking it and i will be telling them...but pretty positive it wont come to that :)

Sorry for rambling :) xx

just wondered if any one has these already its something i have fancied for a while and with the fish pedicure becoming more popular i am thinking about it again! i have read its completly hygenic if you get a specialist aquarium! my main concern was the animal right part of it, is this a issue?

I looked into it when it first come out it maybe popular now but with set up costs of £4,500 then every month £120 maintence fees you would never get your return on them as, you would be constantly be rebuying fish when they die, people will have the treatment as a one off as my business partner tried it at 1 of the beauty exhibitions she said not that mainy people will have it after the first time as £20 for 20mins will not be worth it. And the next day after it she couldnt walk as she had blisters where all her dry skin was where they had been over nibbling so alot of complains an laws suits i think.

Hi was thinking of getting same in my salon based in west yorkshire would you mind letting me know who supplied you with your tank as im struggling to choose between the ones ive found.
Cheers Michelle

Hi. I had this done in a shopping centre after waiting months to find a place. I can't say my feet were amazing, but I have pretty tough hooves to say the least, but I loved it all the same. I think the hygiene issue passed quickly as my desperation to have it done took over.
I asked the guys about the care for the fish and they reckon that the fish have such a high metabolism as they are always so active,it keeps them hungry. They don't all eat at the same time,so some just sort of bob around. There's not a slave driver fish in there making them all get to work.
I must say though,it would be better if there was some legislation brought in that was expected of fish keepers. Impromptu inspectors could visit. And another way for the council to make some money!

All I know is that a well known place near me was scooping dead fish out of their tanks a few weeks ago, and orderd 400 more according to one of their staff members so yes I think its cruel based on that information, why did they die???

I have the tank in my salon and am getting the fish today.
It is totally hygenic! You wouldn't be allowed to do it if it wasn't!
The clients feet are washed before the treatment and the tank has a Uv sterilser and a 4 level filtration system which keeps the water clean and kills harmful bacteria constantly.
You replace a couple of buckets of water twice daily and use a special hoover to clean any waste.
Not sure I understand why people would be worried about putting their feet in after someone else as I'm sure most of you go swimming in the sea which is filthy?!
I'll let you know how popular it is and any other info I get today when the guy comes with the fish!
Oh also it has been banned in the States as they were doing it the Asian way where you have multiple people with their feet in one tank, not very hygenic.

LOL, you have the tank but no fish ....... so in reality you have a footbath, please get back to me when you get the fish (that's kind of the important ingredient in a fish pedicure).....
mmmm, fish eating the dead skin off your feet.... sounds lovely.

Clients are so bloody lazy, if they just ran a pumice stone over their feet every now and then, instead of coming in to me expecting a miracle on their Rhino feet and heifers hoofs.

I am so annoyed at the general LAZINESS of clients, I really doubt their hygiene standards, yet it often the therapists standards that are questioned.

They don't scrub under their nails, they don't scrub their feet, so many are "filth" , wearing flip flops, with their toenails so overgrown they look like overgrown Macaw beaks, toe-jam, split heals and swollen feet (mostly due to lack of exercise), scum between their toes (laziness again) and expect us to be subservient and do all their dirty work, when it would take them 2 mins a day.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

First they want poor little Asians shaving their hoofs for next to nothing, now they want bloody fish to nibble the dead skin off their lazy feet , what next "catnip on their heals, peanut butter on their bellies, jam on their faces with a never ending supply of stray animals using their rough tongues to exfoiliate the lazy " ?

Gimme a break !!!!!

I'm getting over lazy people expecting me to look after their daily hygiene routine.

OMG this is just making me feel ill. People always jump on the bandwagon to make a quick buck, they don't care about their clients welfare, the fishes welfare, hygiene, HIV [or so it seems from the above tale] or other infections. Sure it could be perfectly safe if regulated, but it's not and I for one won't be risking it. Plus I feel sorry for the fish, what a life! This is just gross.

I think the whole thing is just disgusting to be honest and cruel. From what i have seen some salons dont even seem to have the proper aquariums its literally just glass tank, water, fish. Surely they need some sort of filtration system?

I spoke to someone that had tried it, she was told (like it was something funny) that half the fish had died afew days after being put in the tank. So there was hardly any fish in the tank and what there was didnt go anywhere near her feet!! They very briefly came to her feet then spent the rest of the time all in the corner of the tank doing nothing! So she had paid to sit with her feet in a tank of cold water. You could do that at home.

I just dont see how its hygeinic, would we ever do a pedicure, then bring in the next client and put her feet in the same water as the last one? Not a chance

I have been into the new salon in my area to experience this and they went through a full consoltation, checked my feet and soaked them seperatly before going to the tank...walked over to the tank wearing dodgy blue plastic covers on my feet so stayed clean...enjoyed the experience and would go again! Perfectly hygienic in my opinion and obviously a lot of other people as if not, this salon would not be open. I was chatting to the owner and he said he had a few problem with fish dying at the beginning as they were sorting the tanks or something... Looking in 8 tanks i saw no dead fish and all was very clean! I would not have had the treatment if i believe it was unhygienic :)
Good luck to anyone wishing to start this trend in their salon..i would highly recommend it xx

Iv got 4 fish therapy tanks. What a nightmare to maintain. 2 hours a day 7 days a week. 4 water tests on each tank daily so that's 16 tests. water change every single day usually 80 ltr all caried by me by bucket. The clean water going into the tank has to be the exact same temperature as the tank and must be de chlorinated and ph stable so you will need a whole maintenance kit. Thermometer, ph additive. Aqua safe water conditioner then when your ammonia levels rise (which they will because the tanks can only support 30 fish and you need 100 fish to do the treatments all day long)you will need to add ammo lock to neutralise the ammonia or your fish will die . Friendly bacteria has to be added to help the filter clear the water every few days also stress zyme to keep your fish in better condition. I can honestly say I didn't have a clue about the maintenance and cost involved in maintaining the fish. The fish are not cheap and iv lost about 30 in3 weeks. Collecting more fish to re stock is not easy and is a days work in it's self . I'm bloody exhausted

Oh my gosh!! I actually find that horrendous x

Can anyone give me details of the insurance company they use for garra rufa pedicures please. There doesn't seem to be a problem getting insurance to cover the equipment but getting a company to cover the actual treatment seems to be a problem.
Thanks

Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you all know about my recent Garra Ruffa experience. I have set up a Spa with 2 tanks supplied by a company in Lancashire. It is incredibly hard work! Lots of maintenance and water changing.

Also my supplier has been awful - basically extracted thousands of pounds off me and dumped me with no support. The tanks have loads of faults and it has been a nightmare.

If you have been to Professional Beauty this weekend and are seriously considering investing - please pm me for a true account of what is involved and also avoid the company I bought from - they were at Professional Beauty this weekend, i guarantee you will have a nightmare if you purchase from this company.

I got details from 3 companies at PB today. They all said there was hardly any maintenance. They said you had to take 2 buckets of water out of the tank in the morning and put 2 buckets of tap water back in and that was it!
