Anyone else really struggle to do their own nails, I do mine quite a lot, just a Gel NNO in a nice colour, french or with a bit of art.

They never ever look as good as clients nails and I struggle not to file too much.

Sometimes I worry that new clients will see my nails which aren't to the best of my ability and they'll be put off, though most are nail biters or people with short nails when they start coming to me!

How do you all do your own, does anyone else struggle?

Help, I need ideas!

If I had nails, or needed them done, I would go to someone near me to get them done.

Nails can often be quite a solitary career, why not go to a like minded person to see what they do and (hopefully) have good nails and a chat with someone who understand you.

Thanks for the tips :) I did have another tech do my nails a while ago but really haven't got the time at the moment!

ive just completed my 1st full set on myself yesterday.. MY GOD ITS HARD WORK!! lol I did a full set of natural tip with gel over lay. Blending was the killer. It took me 3.5hrs to complete although so far i've had quite a few good comments. I cant really give you advice and I dont think im experienced enough too. The only thing that helped me was to have lots and lots of time!! lol I will definately be checking back on this post to see if anyone has any great ideas.

use poppits
soo much easier and fantastic results on both left and right hand
hth xx

Can I use poppits on Natural Nail Overlay?

I would love to do this but my close by tech is Angel fingers and that means I would get a truly fantastic set of nails and she would get an ordernary set.
Doesn't seem fair somehow:confused::green:

check out the poppits thread loads of info on there x

I remember reading a piece of advice one time that said, "Never choose the hairstylist with the best cut, because she didn't do it."

i always just wear acrylic tips on my own nails, with a uv top coat.
durable, easy to do yourself, and very good looking xx

Well after 3 years of using myself as my own puppet.. im actually pretty good at doing my own nails.. i sculpt L&P on both hands.. and i find.. that the more i do my own.. and my clients for that matter.. i just know where everything goes.. (ifykwim)

tip.. do wrong hand first and make it fun for yourself.. dont look at it as a chore..

As far as getting someone else to do it for me.. If i could find someone who sculpts L&P in my area i might try.. but unfortunately its tips and overlays, drills and face masks as far as the eye can see..
but what i wouldnt give to get my nails done by someone else..

yeh yeh yeh, hurry up and get over here and I will.

i use poppits too, though i do struggle finding time, and it still took 3 and a half hours... but a reasonably good overall finish.
as i'm in the process of starting my own business i needed to have a set as during conversations about my new venture, people would look @ my nails... which i hadn't done.

I was exactly the same!!!! Natural tips with gel overlay, 3.5hrs too!!!

Thanks so much for all the replies keep them coming :)

Will have to look into poppits.

I am a bit obsessed with my nails and while I'll only infill once a fortnight, I'm always putting different coloured polish and art and anything I can think of.

I love doing my nails as I am so proud of the length of them, I was a serious nail biter until I first had my nails donw at a salon commited to helping me break the habit, then I got obsessed and became a Nail Technician myself :D

hiya!:green:
I to do acrygel nails and at first found them really hard to do but kept practicien and now i can do them really good!:green:
they do take me i while to do tho!
I if havent got the time i would get them done by someone else.;)
xxxxx xxx

i just did an infill on me yesterday and it took me 3 hrs and a half and did a mess with gel. however the result is not bad. i m only hoping it won't take me this long when i get more used to it. i can't ask for someone to do them for me since i use them as an advert!! so i really want to improve:)

You could practice keeping them a nice length, work on your shaping & still do pink & white - but if they dont look like how you want them to, you can just paint them emmaculately then gel top coat them (I think Star Nails is a good price & works great for me over enamel - this way you won't ruin your enamel 2 seconds into a treatment!) I have attracted alot of attention just with glossy neatly painted nails lately.

Otherwise I use my "social bumble bees" My sis is the greatest, she's very approachable (where I'm not for some reason, lol) But she always brings ppl my way. So if you always go places with a particular friend or relative, do thier nails & get them trained into flashing them!! x

Also - I do my own - I hate it but I find it extremely boring if someone else does mine. Don't worry, practise makes perfect! It WILL come! x
