hi all nail geeks and thanks in advance for your help!!

Im currently doing VTCT in nails, our class is small so we have to practise on each other, the nail on the thumb has been overfiled and the luna cracked and split then started to peel away, its now just a half moon of exposed flesh, it's not really hurting at the mo just throbs a little.

My question is what should i do, keep it covered/uncovered? Go see a doctor?
Any advice welcome thanks?

i have tried to upload a pic but can't figure out how to do it!!!

Hey,
Noticed that no one has replied... I can't give you any advise... only that the teacher should have been watching more carefully at the student...
You should go and see that dr and get there advise..

Any hoo has is the course going?... if i could afford to go to "school"... every week i would. i loved doing my nail course and I am signed up for a waxing course this friday... lasts 6 weeks... after that i would love to do a master course in nail or nail art.. something like that... always eager to learn new things.
Maybe send a personal message to Geeg.. she will know what to do;

thanks! Apart from this the course is going great i love it, its only part time, twice a week as i have two small children so couldn't go full time. Think you should go for any courses you can as they all help, im hoping to do more after this one finishes in may.

a little but at the mo its bright red, i had very good nails before i started college and got practised on twice a week and now this one just cracked and peeled off yesterday when i removed a set of nails, thats why i wondered if it had been overfiled.

just wondering what to do about it?

You poor thing... they really should not let students do that... that is what prac hands are for... give them a rest and wait for the damage to grow out before you put any more on.... is it sore???????

Ouch!!
I'd go and see your GP if were you,if only to put your mind at rest.
I would keep it coverd for now just to keep any dirt out and then take GPs advice.
Is your tutor aware that this has happend?
Sounds like she could do with reminding the class about over zelous filing/buffing.
Hope it feels beter for you soon
xx:hug:xx

Go see your GP asap it definatly sounds like it needs proff medical treatment. Try putting some lint free dressing over it for now.

ouch sounds painful, I would definately get the dr to check it out especially
if it's weeping.
make sure your tutor is aware of this aswell as this sort of thing can
cause permanant damage. she really needs yo pay more attention to
what her students are doing.
I hope it gets better soon:hug:

Give it a good wipe over with a nail plate cleanser to get rid of any nasties (yes it will sting)
then use plenty of solar oil or similar until you can get to your GP.
i would send a PM to Geeg and you will get better advise than that of a GP no doubt

I actually did this to myself in the early stages of training when I was very unaware of the power of a 180 grit file! (we learn quickly by these mistakes).
My whole lunula peeled off leaving a reddish area, but there was no soreness, or weeping like you are having. I was very carefull with mine for a few days, didn't cover it but made sure it stayed clean. As the nail grew it gradually became harder, but now I find that area is a lot more sensitive, and thinner than other lunulas, and, as I presume I have damaged the matrix, the lunula is nearly twice as big as all my others.
Be carefull as it's growing out though, that area will be so thin, and very prone to the slightest damage.
Hope you get it sorted,

Christine

many thanks for all your advice. A friend of mine who is a nurse has been badgering me since last nigt to go to a & e so i did this afternoon. The doc gave me some antibiotics because they said it looked a little infected, i have to go back on tuesday, to prob have the rest of the nail removed.

So hopefully should be getting better soon. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

This is shocking.

I can't beleive your 'Tutor' could not see this coming....I sincerely hope you let her know asap & get her to inspect every other students nails.
She needs to re-think her filing technique if this is what she's teaching:smack:!!

OK, I'm a bit gobby...tbh, it's not good but the Tutor should of been aware of how much pressure she was suggesting your oppo was using.

Hope it soons get better hun, don't let this put you off nails btw xxx

Would be interesting to see the pic, could you not pm a mod and ask them to upload it for you?

Hope your nail starts to look and feel better soon

Ouch.. glad you went to the Dr... Hope you are feeling better.... make sure that you do as you are told!!!
