Two more days and I get to read this!!!

OMG!!! These books are now affecting my dreams. I had an extremely intimate interlude in the fashion of Christian and Ana last night.....with Gary Barlow. :o:o:o Im very upset that I'm now awake. I want to go back to bed to dream it again and again and again. :D

Gutted everywhere has sold out, asda/tesco/all the book shops! Spent an hour trekking round town today & amazon/ebay delivery won't get here in time for my holiday!! :( booooo

I'm going to see if anyone is reading it whilst im lounging on the beach, & as soon as they put it down to put there sun cream on I'm going to swipe it LOL

so when i end up in a Turkish prison for book theft, I'll be blaming this thread lol! xx

I read them all before they were released in this country! I found this great little website that lets you download them for free to iPhone/iPad and I was that hooked I was reading them on my iPhone on the bus to work!!! She started as an online author hence the free download. But now, it's been three months since my last fix and I have nothing to read!! Someone recommended Bared to You by Sylvia day but I haven't started it yet. I'll let you know how I get on...perhaps we should start a petition for another 10 books! Please Ms James, write some more for us Grey-obsessed ladies (I use the word lady loosely as after reading the book, I'm not sure we can be classed as ladies anymore! Lol)!!

Oh my goodness ive just finished the first one and i feel bereft, going to have to drive to asda when hubby gets home to get second one. Funnily enough he has messaged me asking if now ive finished the book his bedtime antics have finished too hahah

I am only 38% of the way through the first book so pardon me if I don't quite get it yet! We seem to have a 12 page thread here that says nothing but..read these books...!
No one seems to have any views on the subject matter or wants to discuss why this has proved so popular.
The word saucy seems to crop up a lot when talking about it...but really it is erotica and these kind of books have been around for ...well, forever!

Maybe my views will change once I read more, but Mr Grey is not for me...I am a romantic, and I want the hearts and flowers and a Mr Sensitive that can also be the aforementioned saucy. Just as well as that is who I have been married to all these years lol!

I know these books are all about fantasy, but doesn't it worry you that so many women are turned on by the thought of being submissive ? Or am I just an old Womens Libber still yearning for equal pay and equal rights for women.
doesn't this kind of book say more about male fantasy than female?

Isn't this the kind of discussion this book should be kicking off?

You need to read the second book. It's less about what he wants and more about what she wants. You will find that things even out very quickly.

Ok, I give in. I'm going to text the husband to see if he will go up to Tesco on his break tonight. I am hopeful it will be in stock as we are about 50 years behind here.

I don't want to give anything away so all I'll say is just read all 3 books and yes, then I think perhaps your view might change.
The point of my thread wasn't to necessarily start an in depth discussion about it like perhaps you might do at a book club, it has just sparked interest in those of us who have read them and enjoyed them (and has spurred others to get them and read them also) and so I shared my initial thoughts and many other thoughts since :D Many have joined in with their opinion and we have discussed who might play the characters in the film. As for further, in depth discussion on it, it would spoil it for those who haven't read the trilogy.

I don't think that we have no views, the reason i personally haven't discussed the books content is because it spoils it for the reader, each of us are at different parts of the trilogy. If someone were to post on here about what happens in the second or third book i would be really disappointed.

As you say you are only 38% through the first book and i don't think you will get the real story until much later, although it is a 'saucy' book there is also a pretty good psychological undercurrent to it.

It has been argued that it is not a very well written book but for some gripping sauciness i think it does its job pretty well :)

Id love to hear what you think when you get to the end :)

Unfortunately my copy is already loaned out three times before i even see it again! If you still dont have it when i get it back i will gladly lend you mine :)

I don't actually think it is that well written a book, and at times it has made me laugh out loud when I think it was meant to be serious.
As for making it into a film...really?
A book is what you read into it, and can fire up your imagination, and you can make of the sauciness what you will, but there on the screen, surely it is just porn! Maybe, well done and classy porn, but still porn.
Or is that too much to discuss !

I agree that it's making me feel very feminist although I am quite enjoying reading it as its good to chat to people about it as everyone is reading it.

But I dont find him attractive, I find him to be an arse still and wouldn't want a man like him haha! I don't think I will miss these characters when I finish. But it's an ok read for now :)

The thing that stops me from turning this thread into a discussion about what I felt at your stage of the story is that there are others out there still reading the books and I don't want to ruin things for them by giving away what happens.

I can say that the books made me feel quite a few different emotions and my opinion on some things changed as the story evolved. You need to know all that happens and that can't happen until you've finished the books, by that point I'm sure you too will have gone through many different emotions and your feelings and opinions will no doubt be very different to what they are at this point in the books.

I don't want to give anything away so all I'll say is just read all 3 books and yes, then I think perhaps your view might change.
