i believe that mma has a fishy smell.
however i have experienced this smell and they filed in a regular way, whereas mma is really hard to file.

so i'm very interested to hear more information

there is a tech who works in the same salon as me. I dont have anything to do with her to be honest...not in a nasty way but we work at different times and she offers a completely different service to me. her products stink to high heaven and actually make me feel ill and brings a number of complaints from people getting their hair done as well. I had one of her clients come to me and wanted a soak off and new set. As they soaked off it was weird...they went like jelly and stayed really shiney still if that makes sense. I had a look at what she used and it was OPI L2000. i have not come across it before but it said its mma free so didnt think much else about it.....but i remember thinking that it also smelt really fishy when it was filed as well. so will be interested to see what gets said here as well

No matter what the label says, there's always a possibility that

1) she bought her OPI acrylic from an unreputable source and it isn't what she thinks it is, or

2) She's been decanting cheaper MMA product into her OPI containers herself.

3) She's using really old stock and the OPI product has "gone off"?

We have all heard of techs wanting to cut corners, and she may be one of them (I'm not pointing fingers, though - there may be a very legitimate reason for the fishy smell!)

Acrylic monomer smells strong, but it shouldn't smell fishy.

Some fungal infections smell fishy...

evening all , yes she had enhancements on already i was redoing them. All i know is the lady that normally does her nails uses opi products and when i filed them i could smell fish it was strange i did mention it to the client but she coldnt smell it?

One of the main characteristics of an MMA overlay is a fishy smell when filed!! (there are many more!)

That is NOT OPI!

I recently had the pleasure of soaking off mma nails........THE most disgusting smell !!! They were horrible. my poor client was almost sick (I WAS SICK) . it was a nightmare.!!!

I used to work with OPI L&P and i never came across a fishy smell at all!

Probably more than likely a product that is MMA,i have had this a couple of times from clients that have been to NSS salons....

I remember using some tips once that smelled fishy when filed.

Nothing to do with MMA - there was no product involved at that point!

Can't remember which brand they were, but I only use tips from reputable companies.... I remember getting a whiff of it the first time and thinking - mmm that's not nice!.... Smells fishy!!! My client wasn't aware of it.

It happened again and again..... when I shaped and blended for new sets and filing down length during maintenance....... I soon realised it was the tips!

I quickly went back to my beloved Pro Impressions Advanced Tips and I've not smelled it since.

Hmm, might dig through my retired stock - do a fishy filing test!

Might not be useful info but I thought I'd mention it.
