this post has made me feel so sad.

Now as a little light relief :
FIVE RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE:
1. Money cannot buy happiness but its more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes than on a bicycle.
2. Forgive your enemy but remember the bastards name.
3. Help someone when they are in trouble and they will remember you when they're in trouble again.
4. Many people are alive only because its illegal to shoot them.
5. Alcohol doesn't solve any problems. But then again, neither does milk. Drink up !!

xx

I put this as my facebook status this morning! Just love it! x

Also, there was an incident a week or two ago, and where a non-professional went into a thread and started giving their opinion on dealing with clients. A few of the geeks called her out on it, but a few defended her. Where's the unity? I don't think it looks very good when some of the geeks are supporting non-professionals posting in there.

I'm guilty for having "gone after" a non-professional who posted in a professional forum. Guilty...so shoot me.

If you're a non-professional posting in a professional forum and you feel you have the right to toss insults at us, well, you're a guppy in a tank of sharks, baby. Keep your ass off a professional forum or be prepared for what's coming! I have no patience for it.

Salon Geek clearly states it's for professionals and there is a place for consumers. If you, as a non-pro, attack one of my professional colleagues, I'm coming atcha' full force. Best be ready! No apologies.

haha im trying!! it's not an excuse, but i was having a tough time there for a while. my bf and i broke up, two of my pets almost died and we burried my grandmother's ashes all in the span of two weeks. add in the stress of my new salon and i was on the verge of a full-scale, psych ward breakdown.
i'm better now. :)

We've all had periods of stress, and I think every single one of us is guilty (at one time or another) giving others a hard time because we're straddling the edge and ready to lose our marbles.
I also think that if we do see this in ourselves, we should be 'big' enough to say "oops, my bad, having a bad day". I do think you're one of those. I can't imagine you being nasty intentionally.
<hugs>

Couldn't agree more xxxx

It would indeed be a very boring world, but then again, maybe we really have NOTHING in common.

I think we often have more in common than we think... but on forums such as this, it's hard to REALLY get to know someone as well as we would in real life.
Then again, some folks here, understand me better than my own family LOL.

Well said :)

I have to say ditto on this.
My Geeks are my family. They've done more for me with regards to my business than anyone else... all while everyone else doubted me.
NOT ONLY THAT, they've impacted my personal life on a generous scale.

Step on one of my beloved geeks.... and I'll eat you up and spit you out without nary a thought. Those that know me, and know me well.... they know how good I am at this.
LOL

Spoken like a true Troll Eating Dragon Lady. :D

I've follow the posts of Persianista with great interest and have come to really respect her. I followed one rather recent thread in particular when she was in a quandry about having to discipline therapists who chose to misbehave while she went on holiday. She was flat out attacked by some members of our community. She was asking for opinions and what she got in return were accusations. It was horrible. I believe she felt like Rapunzel is feeling right now...wondering why she bothers. But I'm hoping in the end Persianista realized, like I hope Rapunzel will, that we're not all bitches and that there are pros among us that genuinely appreciate contributions they make.

I can't imagine Salon Geek without Persianista's insightful posts. And I want Rapunzel to stay.

All forums go through the same thing, you just need to ride it out. You get some new people join, the ones who have been here a while take a break and it upsets the balance (so to speak). Things will be unsettled for a little while but then it goes back to normal. When I get really busy in my personal life I'll disappear off here for a couple of months and then come back. Everyone does it at some stage. It gives you a chance to recharge your batteries especially when you start to have the same feeling Rapunzels having at the moment.

Yes it was regrettable. As I say, there are people who have their own agendas.

This is one of the reasons I said at the start that I can understand why Rapunzel feels the way she does.

When you get PERSONALLY ATTACKED for no other reason than being a salon owner, then you realise the people attacking you have their own issues.

My being a salon owner doesn't prevent other people being salon owners, just as Rapunzel being a hair pro doesn't prevent others from being hair pro's too.

It led me to feel that I am "at the wrong party". That this is a site for trainees, hobbyists and wannabees, not for genuine pro's, and certainly felt that salon owners are not welcome.

All salon owners are bitches right? Any problems are brought on by ourselves, and are a source of fun and ammo for sniping.
I figured that I should stop answering technical threads, and let the deluded lead the deluded. Better than reading nasty posts directed at me when I have asked for help, opinions or empathy.

So if you wanna be a hair pro, go become one. If you wanna own salons, go buy them. Just don't blame those of us that have done it, for your failure to even start.

My thoughts, for what they're worth:

There should be no personal attacks, and the mods do a great job on these.

We're all adults and as such are capable of self-moderation.

There are clear areas of technical questions ,(which should only be answered by trained professionals), and greyer areas that straddle customer relations/ management etc. Usually they are put in the business forum, but sometimes appear in dedicated forums where the thread title may catch the non-specialist's eye.

Non-professionals can give a different perspective to non-technical questions, eg, from the client's viewpoint.

The "Who are you?" thread showed what a vast amount of experience geeks have in other areas of business/ work. The experiences they have are often transferable into the salon world, in the areas of business management, HR etc. So, although they may not currently be an owner/ manager, they may have opinions or advice to offer.

Finally, I really hope that we retain and appreciate all geeks who support and encourage those who, like myself, really appreciate them.

Persianista, dont regret.
I adore you and love reading your posts, no nonsense there. :green:

I agree, when a thread starts to go pear shaped, I always think "right where are the experienced geeks to sort this lot out!" I'm a fan of straight talking people too, I don't employ anyone but my husband does & we have had all sorts of problems! It's true employees have NO idea how it it for business owners & I'll admit when I was one I thought my boss was a b***h but looking back she was probably stressed to the eyeballs!! When the shoe is on the other foot you see things differently, crys of "well that's how I do it or what do you know ?" from people who cleary have no clue, are bound to annoy well respected geeks but please please don't stop helping those who do really appreciate the good advise you all give {{{hugs}}}

Hello, I am relatively new to this forum but not a professional in the world of hair and beauty. I am however from a teaching and management background and in law (including consumer law, etc) so would hope I could help with threads should any arise regarding these topics.

I do want to train to be a beauty therapist & nail technician. I would never reply to any threads asking technical questions, I'd leave it to the experts.

I have posted threads in the professional forums, I was unaware there was a consumer forum otherwise I would have posted there. I joined SG from my iPhone and use the IPhone app and there is no consumer forum option that I can find on this app.

Regarding this thread sometimes it's all too easy in the virtual world to reply to a thread nastily & hit the send button. Although a lot of times on forums I don't think replies that come across nastily are necessarily meant that way, it's the language, grammar and wording used.

Life is not pink and fluffy and people in life can come across sharp and stern but we do see the other persons facial expressions which helps, in the virtual world we don't.

Why don't you stay on the forum to gain and share your knowledge and experience, just hit the ignore button.

All the best, whatever you decide x

My thoughts, for what they're worth:

There should be no personal attacks, and the mods do a great job on these. I agree

We're all adults and as such are capable of self-moderation. Exactly

There are clear areas of technical questions ,(which should only be answered by trained professionals), and greyer areas that straddle customer relations/ management etc. Usually they are put in the business forum, but sometimes appear in dedicated forums where the thread title may catch the non-specialist's eye. That's true, to be honest even I go by title

Non-professionals can give a different perspective to non-technical questions, eg, from the client's viewpoint. Exactly, opinions are not correct or incorrect they are just opinions

The "Who are you?" thread showed what a vast amount of experience geeks have in other areas of business/ work. The experiences they have are often transferable into the salon world, in the areas of business management, HR etc. So, although they may not currently be an owner/ manager, they may have opinions or advice to offer. Agreed, I know a lady who professes to have done nails for over 20 yrs, trained with the best in the US blah blah, yet this lady has had so many complaints as the tips she puts on are always too small and feel like they are bruising the nail. In my nearly 3 years, I can honestly say I've never had that complaint

Finally, I really hope that we retain and appreciate all geeks who support and encourage those who, like myself, really appreciate them.

I think one can sort of tell the caring, encouraging ones from the almost 'Hitler' like ones LOL. I am honest but there is blatent honesty which I believe is constructive and brutal honesty and the brutal one is the nasty, bitchy one that I now try my hardest to avoid.

 to all my SG pals x

you are not serious. you are really going? gosh, Look what I am about to say here is intended to make you stay.... so bear with me.

Lets just say someone posts something one day and YOU are the only person here they can really take solise from? I dont mean you are the ONLY person who helps, i mean the ONE that really hits home.

But you arent here, you are gone ..............

so, please dont go. Find your confidence, lurk a bit. but don't go. we need you here with us. as beauty/nail/hair therapists we need each other. so please stay .

Yoo hoo! Are you still looking?

Right Mrs! You are going nowhere! We have to stand shoulder to shoulder on this one.

Yes there have been a few difficult people on here recently but I think what we should all do when we see a post that is clearly trying to stoke things up, is to quote the OP's post and continue from there. Like start the thread all over again! This way the rude post will be ignored and the thread will be back on track!

I have been here for a while and the rest of the old girls are right, we go through these times now and again. This is a bad one but there are enough of us to either knock them into shape or chase them off, whichever they prefer!

So Mrs! You are staying eh? Good girl! :green:
