tattooed?

Sorry I can't think of the correct wording for the procedure, but I just wondered is it as painful as having a tatoo?

Also, is it true that it lasts for up to five years?

Do you need a patch test?

I am thinking of having mine done as they are pretty uneven even with me being in the beauty business, I just can't get one right ever, due to the way it grows.

Also, whats a going rate? A lady who does it quoted me £100 for both.

Thanks

It's semi-permanent make up hun. Kim Lawless has been doing it for quite some time I think, as have a few of the other geeks on here.

If you do a search you'll find loads of threads on here.

Does Kim do it?!
I thought it was Jenny Mosley (?sp), and I know that Mrs Geek has been treated by her.
There's a girl on my college course who truly has the most badly done eyebrows I've ever seen. They look like a child has drawn on her forehead and I find it very difficult to not stare!

She sure does - www.kimlawless.com - might give a bit more info for you tinkywinky.

Not sure she could do anything in Yorkshire (I'm sure she'll speak for herself when she's online though!!!).

Ha Ha! I do.....and when it's not there, I tattoo it on.

I trained in SPMU just to satisfy the creative side of me and I treat it more as a hobby that I love. xxx

Hello Tinky Winky

I've had it done and it cost me a lot more than £100

Unfortunately it didn't really work, i.e. after a few months it had completely disappeared.

Was a lot of money for zero result.

I did have a patch test, the treatment itself wasn't painful, the brows looked good for a couple of months BUT I have seen some shockingly bad ones, i.e. I have a client and I swear to god the first time I saw her I thought she had drawn her brows on with a felt tip pen... and it was meant to be hairstrokes.

Overall I would say, do your homework and give it some serious thought before diving in. At least the price is reasonable but then I'd be worried it's too cheap!

From what I've heard (although I am not an SPMU expert myself), £100 for eyebrows does sound worryingly cheap; most people that I know of charge around £300 or thereabouts.

As it's permanent, and on your face too, my recommendation would be to go with someone with experience and a good reputation. Kim Lawless being an excellent example. She's done Katelisa's eyebrows (amongst other geeks) and is absolutely fab.

The only SPMU I've had done myself so far is my nipples(!) and I've had those done on a training course at Finishing Touches; have only had my first session so far, will probably need at least one more session to get them sorted.

Thanks folks

The lady is training hence £100, and I am obviously warey. I will have a think about it and get a new eyebrow pencil whilst I think!

I hate it when they say it lasts for 5 years because it doesn't.

Zo Zo, if I remember well, you're blonde, so I'm guessing that they used dark blonde or light brown on you. The lighter the colour, the quicker it fades. However, it should have lasted a couple of years so you should get them to do it again for free. xxx

There is no such thing as a semi permanent Tattoo
I know Karen Betts of Nueaveux she is an expert in all cosmetic tattooing proceedures also she does hair strokes so that the eyebrows look real .

Hiya,

I find it very frustrating that people charge as little as £100 per treatment, this worries me alot. The set up cost are high?

I would ask questions, are they insuranced and licenced, are they fully qual, do they have a cert to prove, do they have a portfolio of their own work and not just pictures from the internet, have they completed their training in advanced techniques.

If you feel that you want to go on with this tech, then have a free consultatin with her, ask her to discuss colours with you that suit your skin tones, ask her to draw the brow design, ask her to show you how she does the treatment (most tech have practice pads and can demonstrate how the hairstroke brow technique is performed (FAME Technique) pioneered by Debra Robson-Lawrence. www.permnent-makeup.com (my trainer)

They can last upto 5yrs, depending on your tech and the colour used? if you are fair or blonde then expect a re-touch within 18months
if you are dark haired and have darker colours then they will last longer 2-5yrs depending on colour and experience of tech.

research your tech fully

I'm an Aesthetic Consultant and specialise in cosmetic tattooing and work very hard at perfecting my techniques, i qualified at London Harley Street Medical Centre with a distinction of excellence pass. I take my work very serious.

It's an invasive treatment that requires precise techniques by a technician that has weekly experience and that has performed many treatments, who also has medical knowledge for client safety. your technician should be strict on hygiene standards and ensure there is no risk to you from cross contamination.

Hope this helps

I know a lady who does SPMU for £150 BUT, her pigments are out of date, she doesn't have insurance and a licese and she doesn't use anaesthetic. Why? Because that all costs several hundreds of pounds each year and they would rather cut costs at their clients expense..

I think all your questions have been answered but sensitivity may be very different from person to person. it´s hard to say in advance how you will experience it. From moste of my customers i heared that they thought that it wasn´t bad at all. Some people do respond better on the aneasthetics aswell. I even had a customer that thought that her first eyebrow didn´t hurt at all but the other one was very sensitive even though the procedure was the exactly the same.
When the price is really low i would be a bit cautious. There are many poor practitioners out there and this is way to risky to get a treatment like that done with a person that lacks skill, proper equipment or care for the customers safty.
Better to spend a bit more and go to a reputable place. You will enjoy it for years to come

I find it very worrying when people even think about going to have a permanent makeup treatment without doing the research first. For me this would involve talking to their previous clients, asking when they last did a treatment, I would not let anyone within a mile of me if they treated it as a hobby or do the odd one here and there, this is your face, if they are not doing it as a full time job, they loose their skills and are are cheating you out of a good treatment and you run the risk of having your face messed up. I would not let anyone near me that uses stencils, everyone's face is different and they should be designed just for you, just because you think Kylie might have a nice set of brows, does not mean you can buy a stencil and stick it on your face and it suit you. I would also want to know what continuing education they do, if they do not keep up to date with the latest technology and skills it is also very wrong. Things move on all the time look at computer programmes the ones used last year are now out of date. Out of the 100s that train every year only 1 or 2 are going to make it and have the skill, dedication and flair to succeed. I do this as a full time job and do not have fingers in other pies, I do not do any other beauty treatments and concentrate fully on permanent makeup, in the past year I have done over 600 clients, how many other technicians can say that? I have had clients who have been to other technicians including ones in Harley Street who have been so impressed with my work and the fact it was totally pain free, they will not be going to anyone else again. I have lots and lots of photos of people that have been to technicians and have been butchered, so think about it, it is your face, do the research as trust me it is more expensive and painful for correction work and/or removal. This is a cosmetic treatment that is permanent, so do the research and think long and hard about it, if you have to go for several consultations with different people, do not feel pressured into having it just because you have been to see them, this is your face, it is not like buying a loaf of bread, £1 in one shop and 80p in another, you are paying for the skill and expertise of the technician.

Sorry Heidi but I totally disagree that if you do this part time, you won't be as good as someone who does it full time.

I only do PMU when asked as I'm too busy with my waxing biz but I have had fantastic results.

When I assisted with training on a PMU course this year in Harley St, one of the students had her make up done by one of the very well known industry leaders four years ago and it was such a mess that it's a wonder she didn't sue. The very same technician now appears on the tv and in magazines and I have seen her work close up and it's now fantastic. It just goes to show that we don't all start off as brilliant.

I've also seen the work of other well known celebrity techs and their work leaves a lot to be desired. I've also seen the work of 'unknown' techs and it's fabulous. However, they don't do PMU full time.

You may have done a lot of procedures Heidi but my guess is that you would be just as good if you'd have done 50. Good training is very important, but with PMU it's ultimately down to skill and having an artistic flair. We can all hum a tune, but that doesn't mean that with after a few singing lessons, we're going to be opera singers.

I would report her, she could cause someone to have a serious reaction to the out of date products. If she cuts back on that what else is she doing to those poor clients????????? I would report her in an instant

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

This is very upsetting to me.
