I've recently bought a slow cooker and it's lovely to have a warm meal waiting at the end of the day, unfortunately my repertoire is very slim LOL

So far I've made this
BBC - Food - Recipes : Slow cooker chicken and butternut squash stew which was lovely.

I've also cooked a whole chicken and yesterday I did shoulder of pork (just stuck them straight in the slow cooker for the day) which is really nice and easy but then I had to prep and cook veg to make up a meal. I'm keen to find some good, tasty, easy one pot recipes or recipies that i just need to add rice or pasta to make a meal.

So so you have any you would like to share?

I'm also interested to hear as in thinking of buying one! I know lamb cooks particularly well in a slow cooker!

I love doing a sausage casserole in mine. Cook the sausages slightly in a pan to brown them off, chuck them in with 2 packs of Sausage casserole mix you can get from most supermarkets, tin of beans, chopped tomatoes. And leave on low all day! The sausages are amazing!

Also chicken curry but a healthier option. Curry powder mixed with 2 tins of tomato soup, onion, and chicken slightly cooked in the pan 1st. Leave on low all day!

Spaghetti bolonase - brown the meat off with onion and garlic, put in the cooker with tin of chopped tomatoes, jar of bolonase sauce! Cook on low all day. The meat is so much nicer than if you done it quick in a pan.

The one I got is the Morphy Richards sear and stew because it has a metal inner pot so you can brown and seal your meat or fry veg etc on the hob before cooking in the slow cooker housing. Also it's oval so easier shape to fit a a chicken. It's a 3.5 litre one whic is plenty big enough for a family of four. (there's only two of us at home at the moment though - son away at uni)

I love my slowcooker, and they do come into their own in the winter.

I don't follow recipes, just chuck things in.....

Couple of rules; don't use too much liquid, and use lots of herbs, spices, onions.

Try really good quality sausages with butter/haricot/red kidney beans for a sort-of casssoulet. Lamb, dried apricots, nuts, spices. Chicken with a jar of curry sauce for a 30 second prep. Selection of sweet potato, peppers, onions, mushrooms etc for a veggie option.

Great thread!
Just started using mine but At the moment I've been buying the specially made slow cooker packet mixes as they are so easy you just add veg, meat & water. They have loads in the supermarket.
I really would like to do things from scratch though. Xx

I make a lamb casserole which us always a hit,
Diced lamb
Courgette
Two peppers of choice
100g of cherry toms
Two red onions quartered
Then lots of garlic, salt and pepper, ground cumin, coriander, paprika and chilli.
Gorgeous with basmati rice.

I do also use the slow cooker packet mixes too, and my faves are the sausage and bean casserole and chicken curry.
My other half cooks beef stew a lot which is lovely,
Diced floured beef
Stock
Veg
Bay leaf (staple!)
Dumplings
Spices and red wine.

Going to slow cook a joint of beef in red wine gravy tomorrow :)

Omg my dad makes some amazing stuff in a slow cooker ill ask him xx

I think it was about £30 and I got it from Argos.

I have been using a slow cooker for about 30 years now, and imo there is nothing you cant cook in it!

I never follow recipes, just chuck "stuff" in, and it always tastes great!

One of my favourite dishes is a slow cooked "boiled bacon". I buy the "value" make from whatever supermarket I've shopped in, and add tasty juice to it. There is a well known recipe that involves "coke", but recently I didnt have coke so used an "energy drink" (ie cheap substitute for redbull) - was lush. Have also used orange juice, cranberry juice, cider, beer, ....

Just go for it - I've never had anything inedible xxcx

I make chicken and chorizo casserole in my crock pot (I don't have a proper slow cooker). I use chicken thighs, a spicy chorizo, onions and baked beans and let it cook for ages. I know it's a weird combo but my OH is super fussy so we have to have baked beans or else he won't eat it.
