Hi I am new here and really need some advice! I suffer with bad sinusis and over the last two months have discovered that L&P is the cause of my sinuses being bad and also flu like symptons and swollen throat occur everytime i use it. My doctor has advised I dont use it anymore and try and find an alternative. I just dont know whether to go for gel or fibreglass, or wether to just give up completly, which i really dont want to do as i love doing nails!! I wear masks and ensure the area is well ventilated but i still keep getting really ill with it! Please help im desperate!!

Hi there! You sound EXACTLY like me !!
I have the exact same symptoms, no matter what I try.. And really struggle to breathe, swollen glands in my neck, wheezing, coughing, blocked nose..

Unfortunately, me and you must be extremely sensitive to it.. I've tried gel and fibreglass and both surprisingly have the same affects on me!!

I know how you feel.. It is SOOOOO disheartening! I LOOVVVE doing nails and want so much to improve with them, practice practice practice, enter competitions etc.. But it makes me bad for days after.. This is why I have been so limited with how much (or how little) I have practised with them!!

I have brought a fuminator and also wear a mask but I still get the same affects really. IT'S JUST NOT FAIR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got to get back to work now, but GOOD LUCK!!

XXXX

of the 2 , i'd say gel is in more demand. though whether you will have a similar response i could not say.
i know when i doe fibreglass the resin and activator make my eyes water.

perhaps if you were to visit a trade show and sit and have a gel nail done you might be able to tell if it affects you before spending money on products.

Gel, i understand actually can give off as much if not more vapour than L&P, dependant on the manufactureure and type, they just don't smell as strong. Fibreglass and Silk use EC resin which is actually quite low on the sensitivity scale for contact, but as far as vapours is concerned you would need to test this for any system you are looking to use.

It may also be prudent to contact a professional as far as ventilation is concerned as sometimes what we think is adequate is far from it. I certainly don't mean to cast negative aspersions on anyone else, moreso that it was a problem I suffered from in my early days. I gave up on L&P in training because of sensitivity to it - albeit mine was skin rashes, and since have found that smarter working means I don't have any problems

Just a thought...

Do you use an extraction system when doing nails? If not, then perhaps you should look at a work station with useful extraction system.

Personally, I would go for gels but you obviously don't want to pay out a whole lot of cash for another system you find you can't use. So why not purchase one pot of gel and see if you react.

Also look at the ingredients on the gel to see if there is anything present in the gel that is present in the l&p which could cause a respiratory reaction.

I honestly don't think you have to consider giving up just yet. Persevere a little more to find alternatives. I really wish you well.

Hi Hun,
Just had a look in the NSI brochure, they do a nail system called "Spa Aroma-Free Acrylic System", sounds like you can use the usual NSI acrylic powders, with this odour free liquid. Give them a call 0500 131 009 Home - Nail Systems International (UK) Hope this may be of help. Lotsa luv x

I have the exact same problem I actually have an inhaler which I have to use after every fill appt.. and every 2nd 3rd full set.. I wear a mask and am saving up for a desk vent.. I heard somewhere that you can get a fan thats attaches to your drill but I cant remember what its called you could maybe try one of those.. I use Brisa which reacts with my lungs and any other gel I have tried gives me rashes and skin problems.. it is very frustrating when you enjoy something but it causes health issues.. what about a fan to blow the vapors away from your breathing space?

hope that helps

i got brochure for essentials nail today they do uv cure l&p that is odour free !! and nicley priced to !

Please remember, just because you can't smell it, doesn't mean it isn't there! Odours and vapours are very different things.

Personally if I'm going to be breathing something in, I quite like the idea of knowing I'm doing so....thats one reason we have a sense of smell!

just because there are no smells does not mean there are no vapours and it will be the vapours that are causing the problems.

It may be worth looking in to CND's Brisa Gel. I'm not sure but I think that I have read on here that a lot of people who are sensitive to other products have found that they can use this. I would give CND a call and have a chat with them. Other geeks may have more knowledge on this but its certainly worth giving them a call. x

Thank you all soo much for your help! I have taken advice from u all and went to have a gel nail put on at a local salon and stayed there for a while to see if i reacted, and yipee i dind't!! I had a chat with the nail tech there and it turned out she had the same problem as me too and had to retrain in gels! It's amazing how many people actually have bad reactions to l&p even after having used them for a long while. When i did my training at college, i triained in acrylic and gel, that was awhile ago though so i think another training course would do me good before i start advertising gel, as i decided to only do acrylic after training! The salon i went to used creative so i know im ok with that one, and will be looking into training with them, any comments regarding there training would be great! Thank you all again and those of you that are in the same situation as me keep your chin up xx Mel xx:hug:
