hi geeks

as the title says i really need help with sun cream.

we go away to tenerife in 3 weeks (yipee) but my daughter who is 6 is very sensitive with the sun she only has to look at it and she's red. when we went to mexico 2 years ago she burnt badly on her arms and that was applying spf 60 (nivea) every 20 minutes.we make her wear those sun suits but i do like to allow her to take that off. we managed to find a spf 70 hawaiian tropic it cost mega bucks as it was from the hotel shop but i would have paid anything!

so i need to buy some more but i don't know if 70 is enough should i go higher or just get a different brand?
does anyone have similar problems?

thanks x

apparently according to research which has been carried out on SPF anything above 30 cannot be assured. The only way to be sure of the protection time is to monitor the amount of time you can stay in the sun without going red times that by the factor you are using and that is the level of coverage you have and the frequency wiht which you need to re-apply. Does that make sense?

This is quite correct.

What about using one of the creams that you only need to apply once a day, but applying it frequently? They tend to have better staying power than normal suncreams, I've found, and I do burn very easily (20 minutes and I'm frazzled!). The one I used last year was the Piz Buin one, I think it's called One Day Long or something similar. And all the normal stuff like keeping in the shade as much as possible and not going out during the hottest times should help.

Enjoy your holiday! Not jealous at all!

We always went to Florida with my neice and nephew and used a special kids one on them - sorry can't remember the name. It is a sun block and is extremely waterproof. They were in and out of the pool all day and at the end of the holiday they were a light gold. Has to be applied 20 minutes before going in the sun

I've seen it in chemists here and it has little cartoon kids on the outside - factor 60+ hope this helps a bit

This is a big problem for me because I'm a driver, I can already see the the sun damage on my face this year:rolleyes:
Anyway the best one I have found is the Amber solar total block and remember to rub it in well. I would also invest in a good quality Aloe Vera gel, you are looking for one that has the aloe vera councils stamp on the outside, its not called the burns plant for nothing.

ok i think it does??
so really even if i use a spf30 and reapplying it at the correct time suitable to her skin it is better than maybe a spf 60 ??

i don't have a problem applying it at all it's just she still burns i'm trying to find this hawaiian tropic spf 70 it's called ozone sunblock and at the moment the only place i can find it is the U.S and ebay(u.s).:irked:

i might have look at the piz buin all day that could work if i apply it during the day.
thanks geeks

Just had another thought, you need to make sure that you're applying enough suncream as well. Most people just don't use enough. Here's an interesting article that you might find helpful. Is your sun cream working? | Mail Online
