I started doing a home course with home-learn.co.uk, its a nail technician level 3 course. anyhow, just getting to the bit in the course where im starting the practicle work. only to realise that they want me to use heated booties, uv gel, acrylic and fibre. that would of been ok, only they have only supplied me with the acrylic kit. It didnt say anywhere that i would need all the other stuff, i feel ripped off! Surely they should of said in the first place about needing aload of other bits. What do i do now? Is it to late to get my money back? I'd apprciate any comments. Thanks in advance.

Hi, you have to be carefull with these home learn courses as you will have found out now, im not sure if you will get ya money back now give them an email or ring them to ask.You will better if you go to a recognised college and train there at least you can see whats what and help is there if you need it and there will be others you can share tips and get advice from as part of a group.

Good luck xx

Oh Sweet I am so sorry... I am not a fan of the "home" learning.. and nails are def something that you need 1 to 1 training .... i would see if they will give you back your money.. or at least some of it... cut your loses and train with a proffesional like CND.. you wil be a much better nail tech at the end of it..
Good luck with it.
Mel

If you never had any training before in nails level 3 is a big step to take with a home learn course, i did level 2 at college and went on to do essential nails home learn courses, but you really have to have commitment and just for one system there's a lot to learn. Also with en you got the kit but you still had to buy top ups so i don't think you'll get your money back. Good look with the course..xx

also is it a home learn level 3 " as i really cant see it being a nvq level 3 or similar , you would be better off getting yourself to a recognised trainer (CND, ez flow etc..) or local college ,
also maybe phone the course people up and tell em you want a refund and send their kit back xxx

I'm assuming that you have done home learn levels 1 & 2 so therfore you already have these products. You cannot just skip to level 3 so maybe just email them and progress up the ranks when you are proficient.

I have warned and warned on this site about this course!!

It is a 'get rich quick' scheme that will neither get you rich nor will it do it quickly ... it will only get THEM rich quick. I'm sure you can kiss your money good bye.

Thanks for your replies. I havent done a level 2 yet. I dont think they even do one.
It just says level 3 inline with an nvq, and at the end you get their own qualification of a level 3 diploma. I'll think i'll try for a refund and try and get in to college.

Im not even sure they even really mark the work.

geeg, im new to this site so i havent read any of your warnings. If i had, im pretty sure i wouldnt be in the possition im in now.

Hi hun

Ive just qualified on a home learning course and although, yes, Ive qualified I could not have done it without everyones elses help from this site. I would say, try and get your money back, or even some of it, then train with a college. I have so so much to learn still that I am sure if I was at college I would have been shown or at least discussed.

Good luck hun

OMG, you have my deepest sympathy, I studied with Essenctial Nails and they were brilliant, however, I am going to do a conversion course where I will do a 1 to 1 because I feel that I would like to move on by training with CND.

Hi sorry may be speaking out of turn hear but i have been told that EN is not reconised by CND and if you wish to train with CND you would have to do a foundation course not a conversion. This is what i have been told when i enquired about doing my conversion with them!!!!:!:

Try Capital Hair & Beauty for training, there should be one near you. Check their webpage, know they do ibd but not sure wot else and you buy kits direct off them, they shouldnt rip you off!

Hope you get money back xxx

Bit worrying, this. Check with an insurance company that the course is recognised, as if it's not you won't be covered. For future reference, always check this out before you pay for a course, as I know people that have only found after they completed a course that it wasn't recognised by any insurance company and was therefore completely useless. If you can't get insurance, you can't work on the general public.

This is the sentence that has misled you. Saying something is 'in line' with the NVQ does not mean that you will get an NVQ ... you won't. They have knowingly bamboozled you with this phrase to make themselves look credible.

A few companies did this same thing years ago where they said ... "courses to NVQ standard"!! No one ever got the NVQ from taking the courses and technically the companies hadn't promised they would, but it misled many many people. I'm sure the users of Star would agree from a few years ago this was the tactic they employed to make their courses sound more credible.
