I downloaded a particularly nasty virus, which I have managed to remove but my laptop is now displaying the dreaded blue screen about 5 minutes after logging on and restarting?:cry:

I am pertrified to download anything else such as registry cleaners incase the same virus is attached.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated guys???

3 times I have had to send in my laptop and desktop for virus removal....the last one only a couple of weeks ago...and it has cost me a fortune...so I am interested in how it can be done at home too...

I tried alsorts and in the end I could only get it professionally done...:irked:

I am sure i read that reinstalling the factory software from scratch does the trick....???

yes, it does....

It's a pain, but a fresh install of windows followed by instantly installing and running virus protection going forward will do the trick.

Get something like 'Spy Doctor'...about 20 or 30 quid for the year...but VERY effective

Thanks guys thats what I thought. Busy night for me tonight then.

I have 'spybot', 'AVG', 'superspyware professional' and 'adaware'!! Nothing was stopping this monster.

Just for reference its called micro-antivirus and is very nasty indeed. Causes continuous pop-ups falsley warning you of attacks on your pc, prompting you to purchase. DO NOT PURCHASE!!!

That's what happened with my laptop aswell but I downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware & that seems to have down the trick. I just run it once a week & Bob's your uncle :)

cleaning the registry does not really do anything....windows is capable of doing this itself. All these that you see available to buy online either install spyware onto our computer (normally if it is a freebie) or take your money for making you think you have improved the performance of your computer. Not all antivirus software will profect your pc from spyware.... Just remember that when you restore your computer to the factory settings you will lose your hard drive ...so make sure you have a back up.

i Agree.

AVG as Antivirus FREE and very good.
Windows Firewall FREE
Windows Defender for the Spyware FREE.

Don't waste money for mcafee or others

You can do an online seach for combo fix, winsock fix also. you can also do an online virus scan. These are free.
I got infected last year and used both and my computer started working again.
You can also do an online search for the error message from the blue screen of death. Sometimes they can tell you what ie means and how to fix it.
I know that RegCure helped me a lot.

If you need more help just drop me a line.

Hope that this helps.

Hi,

My 1st post after reading the forums for along time. I spoke with my husband about your problem as he's a Computer Geek and he said he could assit you to clean your computer of this virus. You dont need to format and reinstall thats the very last thing to do.

He said he could access your pc etc and get you out of trouble if you can get on the internet. He then went into computer geek mode, way over my head.

If you want to take him up on his offer drop me a PM and I can give you his details.

Wow, thats so nice of you, but I have already re-booted my system now. Thanks so much though for your very kind offer.

Thanks everyone else too, although i am extremely paranoid now. Don't think i'll ever download anything ever again.

Was only looking for a driver for a data cable for my old phone, got over 100 photo's on it, of my babies when they were born etc. Oh well, looks llike they'll just have to stay on there!!!

Try VOODOO FIX .
You may have that nasty Virus Voodoo.
I had it and the symptoms was loosing my desktop and all shortcuts after a few seconds of starting my PC.

Cheers

ive been having probs with my laptop...I dont know if its a virus or what or a corrupt file or something but I cant use it anyway...sometimes I can get on the internet but the whole thing shuts down more or less straight away when I do....alot of the times I cant even get onto the start up screen! Does anyone know if I should restore it to factory settings then? would I lose all my files!?

as previously mentioned ....... download superantispyware and run that, also, if you are getting a blue screen, it could be a driver conflict, try booting in safe mode (when you turn it on and the first screen comes up, (before it goes into windows) keep pressing the F8 button, then a menu will come up) choose safe mode, let it load and see if it goes OK, then close down and start as normal (this often sorts things out by itself).

Stay away from illegal software sites ..... this is where many viruses come from these days (they are more trojans and spyware).
Make sure you have anti virus & anti spyware running before opening any file. ..... and keep them up to date.
