Would any of you loverly people recommend home study courses for nails??

I'm doing my hairdressing course at the moment and thought I may do a nail course. It would have to be home study because I'm in Germany with the army and do not speak a word of German to do it a local college lol. The 6th form that I am going to does not offer nail/beauty courses for adult learners.

Any ideas?

Hm, the problem with home study is - if you are doing something seriously wrong, how do you know?

I know when I was training, if I was ever doing anything that was incorrect, our tutor would stop us, explain what we should be doing and why! If she hadn't been there to do that, at one point I would have given a lady a steam facial with a nose stud in (obviously, the stud would heat up and hurt the client but this hadn't occured to me ).

Why not wait, instead of charging ahead with a home study course?
A course with supervision makes so much more sense and you get on so much faster..

If you had absolutely no other option then I would say, it is a start, but where is the fire?? What's the rush? You will only spend twice when you need to do another course to fill in the gaps that are missing form home study. you will also need to be very self motivated to get anything at all out of a home study course.

Only you know if this option of home learning will suit you and your funds. Personally I'd wait and save and then buy the best education for my money.

I wouldnt recommend home study courses, as with any training you need the practical side of things, Do you think you would be able to do your hairdressing course without a teaching mentoring you?

Also not many, if any companies wont insure for home study courses.
xx

To answer your question you could contact Essential Nails who do home study courses that you can get insured for.

This is how I began years and years ago when my circumstances did not allow me to take any time out from my life. It is a bit of a lonely course and you will have to do some more training later to 'fill in the gaps' but it does give you the basis for being able to produce nails. You will need to complete a written test along with 300 nails on the nail trainer, the same as CND give you to practise on.

In this industry you are learning all the time so further training is something all of us do from time to time some of us more than others.

Have a look on their website and give them a ring, they are friendly and helpful and will fill that need you have to learn nails! I know once you have the desire it is hard to let it go!

You may want to change the products you use once you are qualified and most companies will allow you to do a conversion course with them. I now use Young Nails products and love them and they will allow the conversion course without any problems.

PM me if you want any other help or have any other questions.

Good luck

Sheila :)

Why would you want to learn hair and nails at the same time? Either one is a profession on its own!

My recommendation is to concentrate on hair for now. If it's not for you then think about nails. Personally, I do not recommend a home learn course unless it is just a starting point. (you don't work on real people!! Would you want your hair cut by someone who has only cut hair on a plastic head???) There are several Companies that do not accept a home learn course for a conversion course.

I'd also like to know if the insurance provided following a home learn has been tested!!

i admire your energy, but can i just say that i did my beauty therapy and nail courses with private companies at the same time . it was very hard work! I would suggest you do one thing at a time, it gives you the chance to focus all your efforts, time and resources on one thing and then, when you are back in the UK you can investigate accreditated courses. I did hairdressing years ago, it was intensive and very hard work.

very best of luck to you!
