Hi everyone,

I recently done training with a girl i found on the internet for the lash course, basically she charged me £150 and gave me a kit from salon services which amounts up to like £10 and then spent 1 hour in my house "training me" i then received a certificate from her which she had made on mircosoft word just on white a4 paper with black fancy writting and then laminated it.. just put her first inital and second name and the date that i was "trained".

I have been arguing with this girl for a few weeks now as I dont think the certificate can be legal. my mum is a qualified beauty therispt and said she wouldnt think it was legal either, but this girl that is training people said that she has been in beauty for 15 years and is allowed to train people because she has her certificates, but on my certificate she didnt even put her phone number or her hnd certificate number.. is this allowed? what should i do?

sorry for the long post but just need to know what to do?

Nicole xxxx

You need to find out whether the training course was accredited?
If it is not accredited than you would not be insured to carry out this treatment. Some insurance companies will insure you but will not ask for copies of your qualifications/certificates unless you have a claim against you. Then you would find that your insurance will be void as your course was not accredited/recognised.

It is not illegal for someone to run training courses as many well experienced therapists with years of knowledge offer training which may not be accredited, but would not be insurable.

Did you research your course throroughly? Does she have a training establishment? You certainly should not have been trained for only 1 hour!

Did you know if it was an accredited course? Did she go over any theory with you?

It's my understanding that if someone has a qualification in something and a teaching qualification they can write a course and get it accredited. I could be wrong though.

Missed the 1 hour part. Definitely takes a lot longer. Most courses are 1-2 days at least.

she is basically just a made up company i think, all the "certificate" has on it is THEIR company name, 5 silver stars, then is says this is to certify that (my name) has successfully completed a training course on individual eyelash extensions, date 2nd april 2010 trainer m barrie

that is all that is on it..

my mum was saying that it should be a hollywood lash certificate or another company that has trained them to be trainers but that is not the case

xxxx

Before taking any course you should check whether your course is accepted by your insurance company.

The Guild accredits private training courses, and a list of the accredited schools can be found at Beauty Guild : Training Directory - Beauty Guild.

Whether the certificate should have a brand on it really depend on what she claimed before you booked the course. If she didn't claim it is, for example, a Hollywood Lashes course, then there is no reason why you should expect this to be on your certificate.

This is a perfect example of why you should research any courses you plan on taking through sites like this and the insurance companies.

Your certificate doesn't have to have a brand company on it. Just whoever provided your training.

Was it individual cluster lashes she did and not semi permanent eyelash extensions?

This is a great example of asking the questions before you book the course. Did you not know that the course would only be 1 hour long for instance? I am not sure that you can do anything unless this girl has lied to you about insurance and the details of the course, even then you would have to complain the the Office of Fair Trading. I think you will have to mark this down to experience.

thanks girls i thnk i will just put it down to bad experiance xxx

I notice that you are based in glasgow, you should contact Louisetherapy as she runs Glam Lash courses from their academy, you must make sure you have carried out formalised training and be insured. good luch x

The best thing to do is contact your individual insurance company and see what they say.
