I can do my wrong hand but only just. It took of ages the last time and they're still no where near as nice as my good hand.

In the beginning did u practice on tips or your trainer hand with your wrong hand? I tried this, did 2 nails and went back to using my proper hand.

Hiya,

Yeah I know what you mean, it can be difficult doing your own nails!
I have to say I manage to do my own enhancements very well, although I will admit it takes me an extra half an hour to do my non-dominant hand! lol :)
And I have never practiced on a nail trainer, I have always practiced on myself or family and friends, I would imagine it is easier doing it on a real hand, and you also get feedback!

Am extra half am hour, I wish. I was at least an extra hour. Maybe even 1.5. I did take extra special care to get them looking half decent though. The last set I did were totally rubbish.

I do my wrong hand first....I find it better that way....
and do them from start to finish on my wrong hand....then move on to the other hand.

Sometimes my wrong hand can look better....but I struggle to do my own nails come what may....
I sculpt them as I find that much easier on myself for some reason.
I take forever to do them aswell....hours and hours due to interruptions :irked:

I tend to use popits when I'm doing my own although I did do one set of forever french on myself....it took a while but my wrong hand turned out pretty good (not perfect but half decent) and they lasted too...in fact I'm due to rebalance them this week but I keep putting it off. Practise will make perfect I guess!!

Sometimes i feel like i can do it and other days it just all goes wrong on the wrong hand and i'm putting it off as we speak! I do try and do the wrong hand first too, it does definatley help! Sometimes i use white tips, sometimes i apply my white powder to a natural tip first before gluing it on, these are when i'm feeling lazy, sometimes i do reverse application too. All depends on time available etc. Popits thought do seem an excellent way of doing your own! i went through a phase too of trying to do everyhitng with my left hand, like opening bottles and cans etc, just trying to improve its co-ordination, although i didnt try writing!

This is interesting, iI AM a lefty and just took more notice and i'm typing with my right, open bottles with my right cut with my left so i use a bit of both.

I start on my left hand and usually takes me30-45 mins longer.

Terrible!

I just couldnt get the filing right after.

I gave up as i was such as bad advert for myself!!

I always start with the wrong hand first so that when it comes to the right hand, it's a doddle.

Decided to do my own nails this evening and after reading this thread earlier thought id post how i got on! Did a reverse application and it took altogether 2.5 hours with distractions and a much higher proportion of time on the wrong hand lol! I've realised, as i was paying attention to my techniques more ,that i really struggle with the sidewalls of the wrong hand, especially with pressing the product, so i was wondering if anyone else had this problem with the sidewalls?
I've noticed in the past that this area on the wrong hand lifts quite quickly.
Sorry for sort of hijacking thread!

I use gel and i find the sidewalls difficult too. I get way too close. My nails are a week old and no lifting yet. :fingers crossed:

I've noticed on my good hand zone 3 is a lot better though.

Hi,

It usually takes me a total of 4hrs to do a fullset on my own nails and 3hrs for a rebalance! I take my time when I do my own nails so that I dont find myself having to fix them afew days later! It takes me longer also because I always do nail art, and half the time is spent on deciding on what design Im going to do next!!

Hi Geeks, I start my left hand first, file, prep and application (approx 20mins) - it is a good warm up. Then I do my right hand (I am right handed). I take approx 30mins. Then I finish file both hands left first then right. Approx 15mins in total. I wear my nails predominantly french and an active length, I do rebalance them every 2 weeks so that they are kept in good order and not to much work to rebalance.

I must say however my left hand does often get done more frequently than 2 weekly as I love to practice and play:)

for some odd reason i do a waaayy better job when i use my wrong hand (mainly zone 3). my instructor said i should make it my dominent for application only....rofl..:smack:.....wait maybe i should...i dont know.

anyway, it takes me 2 hours total to do a full set on myself, mainly because i do a lot of artsy stuff too....now i want to change my nails again(its been 2 wks i think its time...lol).

Before the advent of Popits, I would do my right hand then my left, take me a total of 2 hours start to finish. With popits, it takes me an hour tops.

I have been using my left hand more to practice because I *was* born lefty, and I am finding that I have much better control with it than my right now as far as doing smiles and what not.

N.

I tend to do a better job on my non-dominant hand as I really take my time on it. I do get lifting on this hand every once in a while (always on my middle finger).

lol me too!! always on my middle finger it bugs the hell out of me its always only that finger!!

I find that when I do my left hand (I'm right handed) I get exceptionally little lifting. When I do my right hand I get lifting within a week or two. I can't seem to apply the right pressure to the right handed nails to get them to not lift. I'll usually do a refill on my right hand long before I need a refill on my left :green:

i can do my other hand ok and make it look same, but would take ages and sometimes did it over a couple of nights,so got to say that popits are a godsend for doing your own, i can now do soak and new set with nail art in 3hrs.

I cant do my right hand fairly well but I will always get some minimal lifting which is because I cant get the right pressure in zone 3. My left hand never ever lifts yet I still have lifting on my friends, doesnt make sense:eek:

For some reason my nails always turn out nicer then when I do my gf's. Oh well I will keep practicing...
