Please i need help. I had an ingrown toenail problem about 5 years and because of so many surgeries ive been left with practically nothing:eek:. Im so embarrassed and cannot where open toed shoes. I've been using artifical nails that ive been gluing on for the last four years but the only last 2-3 days and they fall off. I think about it constantly! The last straw was when i was on holiday with my boyfriend and one of them fell off while at a party. I was so embarrased . But he still doesn't know and now he wants to go to the beach in summer but i havent gone in years beacuse im afraid they will fall off which they usually do:irked:. I get so upset about it a lot:cry:. I saw some threads explaining how to rebuild a nail yourself but i dont understand it very much. I also read that some people get a toenail reconstruction and it lasts about 6 weeks:p. Can someone please help me? Im in Austarlia and getting desperate. Please help!

There are some nail tech that can reconstruct an artificial toe nail from liquid & powder (acrylic).
It would be made to fit your remaining nail plate/area perfectly and could be applied using a medical grade adhesive such as CND Gel Bond.
As for lasting up to 6 weeks, i cannot say, but it would be a whole lot better than the things you are using right now. It may, however, depend on what you have left on your toes too.

There are a number of Aussie people on this site - some very good nail techs which I'm sure would be able to help. To ensure that they can see your question, I would start a new thread entitled ' Help needed from Australian nail techs please - toe reconstruction' and you'll get them looking at it - this thread is not directed at those specific techs, so we will all look.

I'm sorry you're not near me, I'd gladly do it for you hun

I have had the same problem on one of my feet due to an operation. A foot had to be operated on twice, in the same place. This caused trauma to my foot and therefore my big toenail doesn't want to grow more than about 3/4mm.
I have been using the CND Poppits to make my new big toe with amazing results. I do a new one about every 6/8 weeks. It looks great and nobody can tell! I go surfing, walking, beach (when its sunny, which is a massive zero amount in the uk right now!!).
Try with a Poppit.....might be as successful for you as it is for me.

if you have a fragment of nail left, then it would be a good enough base to sulpt out a new toenail and you wont need to glue. the results can be very good.

Thats an amazing transformation!

Can I ask how you created it & what you used?

i used deco pink lechat nail architecture acrylic.
the nail was prepped as normal. the redish colour on the natural nail is actually staining from polish that just wouldnt shift because it was kind of soaked into the crumbly layers. and i didnt do that little scratch on the toe either !

i applied a little bit of lechats cuticle oil to help protect the skin and then applied the l/p in a dryish ratio to prevent from potentially flooding the skin with monomer.
it was simply a case of applying enough acrylic to even everything up. then i finished with a file and buffer for a nice smooth surface.
that nail lasted litterally months and ive since done it again for her.
the client is a stunning young lady and she was really concious of her damaged toe and hated showing her feet. she was amazed when i told her that i could fix it up in just a few minutes for her.

I have lost both my big toe nails and only have a bit on both beds at the cuticle end. During the Winter it doesn't matter so much but in the Summer I sculpt some nails by using a dryish mixture after prepping in the usual way. Use what nail material you have and just use the acrylic to fill in the rest and buff afterwards. It really is easier than you would think. I would imagine, in some way, we are running the risk of over exposure but it is a personal decision. I will be posting some before and after photos quite soon, just have to finish off the ones I have done today. :) xx

Thanks for the help guys. The more suggestions the better. I have taken your advice and help and i thank you. Seeing those before and after pitcures were amazing, they made me tear up at the thought that maybe that could be me one day and i can feel truely happy and confident about the person i am. I wont have to worry about asking people in advance if we need to take our shoes off and freakin out or avoiding the beach, or always wearing socks with runners or boots. I'll keep you guys updated if anything occurs. Thanks again

Oh by the way if i want to try and do it myself as i am a very private person what are the products needed and how can it be done? Im not very familiar with the name of products but i do my own manicures and would like to attempt it myself...could i have help with this.
Thanks guys:)

To be honest, hun,

I cant see anyone giving that information to a non-professional, as its potentially dangerous for you to use these chemicals without formal training.
Just find yourself a lovely nail-tech & put your trust in them.

to reassure you, a nail tech wont think a thing about doing it. no one is going to be grossed out or find it amusing in any way.

you could simply ring around or email to retain your anonimity whilst you are looking for a tech who can do this for you. and when you get to the salon it will be fine, its all in a days work for us. its only going to be a little thing you have to do to really change things for you, well worth that initial step.

you will not be able to do it your self, its not easy if you dont have the training and there are all sorts of potential hazards here if you dont have product knowledge .

We actually welcome doing these sort of treatments as we know it makes you feel a lot better! Goodluck. Hope it goes well.

Ive been calling local nail salons but no one seems to understand what i am goin on about. Most of the businesses here are run by people who can hardly understand english! Its so frustrating! I found one place but she seems unsure as well, she knows that a new nail can be scultped but she sounds unsure.

Hi there,
I am in Australia but on the wrong side!! So won't be able to help you on this occasion. But if you look on line at the yellow pages Melbourne website (type in artificial nails/enhancements) there are tons of techs and salons that do nail enhancements and some will do toes as well. Gel toes are very popular and they will be able to add a tip to your toenail and have it enhanced with gel (which can have a natural look or colour). There is also acrylic enhancements which can be put over a tip or sculptured. Some salons will offer both gel and acrylic. With both options you can put nail polish on too, but your technician will go through what is best for you. You can also get a pedicure service a long with the service to help so you are more relaxed and less conscious about your nail(s) and feet. What better way to enjoy an afternoon!!:) not only will you have great looking feet and toes, you will of had sometime out!! Hope this helps.
