Hi guys, ive been offered a job in a spa and have taken it. The only problem is they want to send me on a course to do intimate waxing on men and women. The thought of it fills me with dread. I dont mind a bikini wax, but the thought of someones bits staring me in the face just doesnt appeal to me in the slightest.
I dont know if i should speak up and tell them that i really dont want to do this or just sit back and be quiet? It's not like i'm one of these fussy people that will only do certain treatments.I want to learn as much as i can, just not this!
xxx

Did they tell you about the intimate waxing at the interview?

If you feel uncomfortable doing this..well...dont do it..go back to your employer and explain your thoughts on this treatment.

On the other hand..and from what I have seen this last week you will..if you are a waxer...realy not look at the "bits" for what they are..you will look at the job in hand s to speak.

Really its simply a case of getting on with it and after your initial reaction your fears will simply disappear as you get stuck in.

Your customers will thank you for what you have done for them and you will eagerly await your next customer

Classic collin.. just ignore any bits that tangle and think of this area and picture something diffrent to allow you to carryout the job at hand..

its really not a big deal, you just get used to it. And as has already been said, you dont really look at it for what it actually is. Its just another body part that we work on.

why dont you want to do it?! just saying "it doesnt appeal to me" isnt really a valid reason. Plenty of people go to work and do a job that 'doesnt appeal to them' but it's their job and they get on with it to put food on the table!

if you enjoy your job you are very fortunate, even if it is just one aea of your job you dislike, you are still very fortunate.

Ah.. thats a bit unfair mate.....i can see why she wouldnt want to do it.

I was saying to a geek the other day at college BIKINI waxes skared the poop out of me...then the thought of a brazilian was like:eek: O M G.

Did the training now i dont batt an eyelid.....now a MALE brazilian i used to think EEEEEEEEEEEK SCAREY - but i watched lori demo it on Ruth and i now KNOW i could do it.

It's just the unknown.

Im SURE you'd be ok once you got in the swing of it!

However if your dead set against it and it wasnt part of the 'job description' (because not EVERYWHERE offers it as 'standard' ) then have a word with your employers

not really, its a valid question, and if we understand why she is against it maybe we can help her get over it...

At the risk of a flaming I agree with Kate. Ok, so you don't like the sound of it, but as a professional beauty therapist you must get over your distaste and provide a top notch service. When you own your own salon you can pick and choose which therapies you decide to offer (but I'm willing to bet that you won't turn legitimate work away, however much it offends your delicate sensibilities!), but as an employee you can't really turn your nose up at what is, after all, a reasonable request.
My advice to you is to 'fess up to your employer - tell them you feel a little unnerved at the thought, and can they offer any tips for getting over your fears.
If you try to avoid doing them you just know it'll come back to bite you in the end.

Well the way you worded it 'before' you edited it sounded a bit like EVERYONE who does waxing SHOULD be willing to do intimate waxing and the way i see... it's my (or whoever we're talking about) personal/professional preferance, and DEFINATELY should have been clarified during the interview or in the job descripton.

I know most peeps are happy to do it but im sure there are MANY that dont!

Agreed ...there is absolutely no reason why any therapist should not undertake treatments that he/she is not willing to provide.

What you will tend to find however is as you have Amber that attitudes do change once you get into proceedures...the first female Brazilian is daunting enough..the first male intimate wax another psychological hurdle to go through and so on.

However it is important to stop when you finally go outside of your comfort zone

I just don't think its 'standard practise' to expect a qualified beauty therapist to do male intimate waxing i know of only ONE salon in Leicester that offers it....heck what am i dithering about i should be doing it ...............i'd be RICH:green:

Finaly Amber..the penny has droped

Get yourself booked in with Andy or Kim and away you go..ching ching:)

If they didn't make it clear at the interview that you would be expected to do Intimate Waxing, then it's outrageous to expect you to do so. On the other hand though, you should have made it clear where you stand on the subject and maybe you need to think about whether the beauty game is for you. xxx

Hi there

I can understand your delimer hear so my symphethy goes out to you.

When I fist opened my salon ( I rent above a hairdressers ) I only put Bikini Line on my leaflets, BUT I had a lot of calls asking if i did brazialan or hollywood,,,, i never really wanted to do it for the same reason even though i had training, BUT now i men and women having it done.

IMO dont think about it and get on with the job in hand its not that bad once you have done a few and you dont really think about it to be honest you just get on with it.

Is it female or males your worried about, coz if it males, hey if you have a BF or husband what difference is it, IMOI seen one seen them all lol

in this business i,m affraid you have to be versitile if you car,nt then just DONT do it, but you will loose clients. they will just go to someone else

If it's in the job description, then the spa haven't done anything wrong, and tbh it's great that they're prepared to invest in you and increase your skills. But if it wasn't in the job description then I think you can, and should, say you're not happy to do it.

If you are not happy to do it, then in my opinion, you shouldn't be doing it. Not only for your own sake, but think of the poor customer!:irked:

I have had so many clients tell me stories of poor intimate waxing, where they say it has been so obvious the therapist hasn't wanted to do it. It's wrong, and it's not fair on the customer, and it's bad for our industry.

But if you do, then please give me enough notice - as that was 9 weeks of hair growth that Lori had to work with last week! If it's only a couple of weeks or so since my last wax, there'll be nothing there for you to wax ;)

No they didnt mention it at the interview. He told me when i went in for fire drill training xxx

Thank you for that advice Minkus.I wll defo take it on board xxx

Of course it is a valid reason. Why do a treatment that you are not going to enjoy doing it?
And if people choose to do jobs that dont appeal to them then more fool them. I chose to do beauty therapy beacause i knew i'd enjoy working as beauty therapist!
