Is there much nastiness between mobile nail/beauty techs?

Just wondering as obviously I am just starting out and when I google to see who is doing what in my area I do wonder about if I put a postcard through another nail techs door when I start promoting myself about nastiness as I am on their patch so to speak!

Anyone experienced anything or is it one of those things that you don't know about till you start promoting yourself? Anyone had any dodgy bookings where the address you arrived at isn't someone who has booked you, etc?

I am a mobile beauty therapist and more than anything if another therapist posted through my door I might be interested in trying one of their treatments just for fun and relaxation! I wouldn't feel threatened or think it was my area not theirs. I'm sure the majority would not think anything of it unless they were insecure about their abilities. I have had no problems with any of my mobile clients either. I have tried to use local independents when I want to treat myself.

Tbh I haven't found any nastiness, my hubby once unknowlingly put a postcard through another tech's door and she phoned me to do her nails, as it turned out she was looking for another tech to take on a table on in her salon but the terms didn't suit me. No hard feelings though.

I like how the answers are coming back :) so nervous about possible nastiness.

I have never ever ever had a beauty leaflet of any kind thru my letterbox ever! in my whole life!

I think the trick is to be crash hot. We all know theres lots of people out there who are rubbish, and my new fave saying is cream rises!

But as for nastiness, the only time another therapist has been evil to me as been when she has been so poor at her job she found me a threat! As weezie said, I also try to use local girls to do treats on me :)

i'm not a mobile tech, but there are a couple of other techs almost on my door step.

i guess there is always a worry that things might get nasty, but i havent come across any animosity.

its good to get to know them if you can, i know i can recomend clients to them if i dont have space in my diary for them and they do the same for me.

I keep any leaflets I get and pass their name on if I cant fit an enquiry in.

I think in the early days you do feel a little threatened but then you realise you simply cant do every client that enquires. Well you could if you worked all the time and didnt sleep.

I am friends with quite a few other geeks in my area, and am happy to pass on enquiries if i am fully booked. I also get a lot of enquiries outside of my area so i am also happy to pass these on too.

Im so pleased all replies are favourable :)

I was out delivering flyers this weekend, and we kept crossing paths with a young boy who was also out delivering. On the third street we stopped to ask him what he was handing out. He said, 'They're vouchers for my Mums beauty salon.' Whoops! We had to tell him we were handing out the same thing too.

Today I got a call from a lady asking about all my treatments. She kept asking what else do I do, how much, how long have I been trained, etc. In the end she said she would come in to my salon (I work from home) to get a brochure this afternoon, before she booked anything.

Guess what? She never came. Possibly the other salon I think.

hmmmm dodgy. I had a call a few mins ago asking me how much I charge for a full body spray tan, when I told her she hung up! I tried ringing her back but she never answered, so I am assuming it may have been a local tanner. Mind you, I am better than all of the local ones I have seen advertised (only 3 or 4 of them in Lincs) so I'm not too fussed!!! xx
