Self-heating lava shells are the latest trend to hit the beauty massage industry with celebrity fans such as Sir Richard Branson, Ellie Goulding, Pixie Lott and The Saturdays. In fact, the Virgin boss is such a fan that he's added it to the treatment list at his Bali Leha Spa, located on the idyllic Caribbean retreat of Necker Island.
Promoted as the new 'hot stones' the treatment uses 100 per cent recycled, natural tiger clams shells sourced from the Philippines and here's the magic. When filled with a mixture of minerals, algae, salt water and essential oils a chemical reaction producing heat and because this is a natural exothermic reaction, it means they stay hot for over an hour - much longer than stones.
The shells are already sweeping through the industry with over 1,500 salons offering the treatment.
Until then...geek on!
