I am planning on taking a course in the new year at a local training academy probably in man/ped & gel stage 1 to start with.
My question is although they require a live model for the course, do you think i should get a hand trainer to practice at home also, in my own time? or would this be a waste of the kit i purchase with the course? although not too expensive i would not want to use it up at home.
Or are there any other products i could purchase for practice at home or would this just confuse me by using a different product to that on my course?
The course i am going to do uses Le Chat Nobility by the way.
Thank you if you have any advice.

A trainer hand is extremely useful to have and I could not have lived without mine.

You will have to bear in mind that you will have to practise a lot to master nails and this will entail you using a lot of product. It would be pointless to buy another brand IMO as they all work differently. HTH

a hand trainer would be great for you to practise on, I have lent one from a friend. I did find though that the best practise i could have is doing real hands though and you would surprised just how many people will let you practise on them!

best of luck!

I have had my nail trainer for years and it is the best practicing tool I ever bought and I still use it now. Le Chat is an affordable brand so maybe buy an extra clear gel but dont buy another brand as you'll need to get to know the one your learning to be able to do the best nails.
You'll have great fun with your nail trainer and you can practice on it ANYTIME you want

If you are serious about becoming a good nail technician then I think the Nail trainer is an essential part of your kit. It comes in useful for many things even when you think you have mastered most techniques.

There is no way to practise nails other than by using up your product .. it is not wasted on practise with the nail trainer. You need to put in the time and effort and use up product if you want to see results that people will eventually pay for!

A nail trainer is an essential item of kit, in my opinion, when you are learning. You will need to do a lot of practising to be even halfway towards mastering your craft and it's the ideal tool. It never complains, it's always there and you can just walk away whenever you want a restorative cuppa. Do get yourself one and don't ever think of it being a 'Waste of product' to use what you're learning with on it. :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. Ok hand trainer it is then, i agree the Lechat range is not too expensive to keep stocked up for practicing.
I hope i do have plenty of live guinee pigs as well, its one of my concerns that i will be unable to find a model for my course. The people i feel most comfortable in asking are my mum who has lovely nails and is unlikely to want enhancements, she will have to be my manicure model. My friend who has a full set of acrylics, not sure she is going to wan't my dodgy looking gels untill i get more skilled, and my other friend who is a nail biter (no nail biters for models on the course). Slim pickings....my husband is always willing can just see him with a full set of gels....lucky Nobility is a soak off

the nail trainer is my best friend and I couldn't live without her. x

i couldnt live without my nail trainer. i still use mine now even though ive been doing nails for a few years. i use it now mainly for practising my nail art. without my nail trainer and being able to take samples of my work with what i had learnt to job interviews, i would never have got my first job in a salon. its very useful as there are nails designed specifically for airbrushing/nail art, 5 different sizes of nails to practise on and there is even a special maintenance nail which shows red if you file too deep xx

I am thinking of getting one if these too, christmas pressie idea perhaps lol!! They do look fantastic and nobody seems to have anything bad to say about them! xx
