Hi Geeks, it's saturday 10pm, any of you who have freeview or sattelite etc, check out The Ideal shopping channel. The woman demonstrating the jewellery has some nails on. Obviously white tips as the overlay has turned them pink, and on the close-ups the finish is dreadfull.
Check it out and see what you think?

I have noticed them before..they look awful don`t they:rolleyes:
I was watching the rio nails show on there a while back and she was saying that she does them herself with the rio kit ....the thing is they sell the french kit which includes the white tips and that pink gel to go over them..not a nice look is it lol

If you want to see terrible nail extensions then check out the female presenters on Gems TV. I cringe when I see them and the presenter who is on now has had a really bad fake tan, you want to see her hands uck.

thats funny, I do the same myself...i have yet to see a set that has made me say wow...they are all terrible, from what i have seen anyway, it just goes to show what the clients think of their nails/nail tech...

if i was going on tv, doing close up hands work, my nails would need to be the best...
if i was the tech doing the nails, i would also need to ensure they were the best..

Wouldn't you think Gems TV would pay for a really good nail tech to do the presenters nails as they are under so much scrutany all the time. They need to be perfect and boy do I mean perfect for such close up camera work. I am glad to hear that it isn't just me who is such a saddo that I tune in just to see the nails.

i watched that in the US and they have perfect pink and whites
that s the best advertising for our job to see nice nails on close up

It's not just one of them it is all the female presenters on Gems TV who have the worst nails I have ever seen. Why don't some of the W. Midlands techs offer their services to Gems TV they are based down there:biggrin: then I wouldn't have to watch especially when I can't buy nothing:biggrin:

Blimey is there something in the air at the moment? Is it "take a pop at a tech week"? You know what I've not seen these nails and frankly what they look like is none of my business. If the client is happy then who are we to judge?

You know what I have clients come back to me who have trashed their nails and they looked damned awful, it isn't always down to the tech the way a client's nails look. Do you think a client has the same critical eye that a tech has? Do you think they always know the difference between a good set and bad? I also specialise in nail biters and you know what they say, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

If your work is 100% perfect 100% of the time and your clients come back with them still looking 100% perfect then I feel we can judge other people's work, and then only constructively. But I don't think any of us can say that there isn't room for improvement in our work ... is there?

true what is good with this job is that you always learn
i don t really know how to explain that in english i would say that this way don t take ur experience for granteed because there always new products new technics coming up
we got to keep ourselves trained and we do better on each set we make
i m just starting so i wouldn t say my nails are the sh....
but i do ok for a beginner and i m still learning
guess we have to be humble
but the fight is hard between salons so i see why some techs are dissing others
that s something i will try not to do

One of my clients does demonstrations on QVC I had better take extra care now I know everyone's checking out the shopping channel's dont want anyone coming on here saying "Ooooh did you see those nails? I hear Jac did them"

To be honest i wouldnt worry what other peoples nails look like as long as the ones i produce and wear are up to a high standard, i wouldnt enter into a bitching session about it, i'd rather concentrate on my own work not someone else's.

HUGS xxxx

I would be gutted if someone put a pic on here of my work and said it was crap.....well, I'd say let me see what you can do lol I have pics in my gallery of my work, not always my best work either as often the nails I put in my gallery are there for a reason, input and advice on how to make them better.

I would just like to say in reply that I haven't yet seen a bad set of nails on QVC. Only on the other shopping channel I mentioned.

my comments on this thread were not to 'bitch' or be un proffessional, or to slate someone by name over their work.... ,beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
I commented because I agreed with the thread that was started.

we are all entitled to an opinion,
Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Article 19.
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression;
this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek,
receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

and I am sure many, many of us are guillty of 'commenting' aloud, or 'thinking out loud' and from some of the threads on here like the BB thread on silicone enhancements, nails, hair, attitude etc, they belong to a person too...or does that not count..

here are some quotes taken off some recent geek threads (from a few different threads..) of peoples opinions, though it may be none of their business what someone else has done/said/photographed.....that person is still entitled to have an opinion on it without being shot down in flames...:Scared:

'The nails are uninspiring to say the least IMO.
Not only that, but they look out of focus and the surface smoothness leaves
allot to be desired as well as the fact that each nail has a different form!!
No two are alike! If this is acceptable to some of you ???
and some of you can't see it, then I think you may need to develop your eye, or your own work will suffer because you cannot recognize good work from not so good work.'

'Have to say that I agree with Gigi. I noticed that the nails were out of focus and were different shapes.'

'the best advice I personally can give you is to 'bin' the Rio kit
and get yourself some nail education along with professional, good quality,
products so you know exactly what you're doing'

'It might just be me but does anyone think that the nails in the picture look like stick ons?'

I can understand why quite a few geeks have been afraid to reply to a thread, or make a new one for fear of sounding 'stupid' or stating their opinion, incase they get shot down...makes u wonder why bother..

there has been times when I have read stuff and found comments to be nasty or degrading to the person making the post..which I agree should not be condoned.. so I would like to edit my post incase I have offended any nail techs out their by having an opinion on their work,

and just to say, Well done to any nail techs out there who do presenters of 'close up hand shot work', it must be nerve racking knowing that your client is on TV doing that kind of work wearing your nails....

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether good, bad or constructive, just remember the person to whom the opinion applies to and how you would feel if it was your work (for example) etc and then decide whether its best kept to yourself or not. xxxxx

that quote is from me and taken totally out of context and mid-sentence...
the reply i posted is as below...
and taken from this thread... Blending tips
I've italicised and changed the colour of the bit i've been quoted on in this thread.
the best advice I personally can give you is to 'bin' the Rio kit and get yourself some nail education along with professional, good quality, products so you know exactly what you're doing when it comes not only to your own nails but also those nails of friends and family... it's too easy to wreck a nailplate through lack of education and poor filing technique...
as professional nail technicians it would be unethical of us to give you pointers as to how to achieve, or try to achieve, a correctly blended nail tip without you having some kind of training.. we've spend literally hundreds of pounds as well as sweat and tears on our education to help us become skilled professionals... please don't take that the wrong way
have a read of the article... The answer to the most FAQ - "which training should I choose? to help you decide on the best route for you.
i don't understand what's wrong with that reply when it's in context, please point it out to me!
